  • Running 2 cutters set up

    HI All

I just got myself a new toy and wondered how to set them up so I can chose which one to cut to. Both are Summa’s running off the same software (Macsign) and computer?

    cheers

Does Macsign have a production management window before you go to cut? There you should be able to choose which cutter to send the data to.

could be, hopefully. I’ll have to check that once set up as I can’t see it now but might show when the new cutter is connected.

can you have multi copies of the program open one for each.

one job in tailed 3 corel windows open.
    1 master
2 for the different plotters with different colours in them.
then drooped the bits in to the print page from the master for the colour.

still can’t weed both at the same time 😀

not sure Chris, I don’t want to be able to run both at the same time but need to be able to send to which ever one I want to use at that time (running both together would be a nice bonus though :lol1: )

My new cutter is bigger so when I need to cut larger stuff I obviously need to send it to that one, need to know how to chose where to send the file.

Off to buy a usb extension later so can connect it up and see what the software does.

    cheers

We use one of these, and simply switch between them.

does this mean it can’t be done any other way or just the way you have to for your set up (which is what?)

I’m hoping it will be like a printer, when you go to cut there will be a drop down or something that allows you to select which device to send the data to 😕

Our set up is 2 Macs to 2 separate cutters. This way we can choose which plotter we
want to send to from each Mac, or if you have 2 cutters and 1 Mac, you would just use
the switch to select between them. Works well for us.

We run Flexisign and in Production Manager we can choose either 1 of our Graphtecs or our 1200mm wide Summa. Also, I can plug the usb in to my MacBook and run either off that.
    Easy peasy 😀

I assume you are connected USB?

Newer Summas have device numbers so that you can have up to 4 summas connected USB to the same computer.
Each summa has to be set to a differant device number 1-4
You do that on the summa itself.

Then the software has to be able to open the desired device number.
Summa provides a DLL to software devopers to easily connect to the correct cutter. Signlab and im sure a few of the other biggies support this but im sure not all softwaredoes.
You can cut to all 4 at the same time if you want.

If you connect via usb to serial cables, then its easier.
One is on com1, one is on com2 and so on.

sounds good, will read up more and hopefully figure it out but now I know what to look for.

SO it seems I will have to upgrade the software if I want to run both at once.

Does anybody cut directly from Illustrator to their Summa and is it possible? This might be an option?

    cheers

Not sure about the Mac set-up, but I cut direct from Corel X4 using the "print" option, and I can send the file to any of the installed machines whether its the cutter, printer or to file……………..
