Here is an email I just received this morning:

Hello your phone is always engadged..10am today till ???you need to update and get more lines in…we can’t keep redialing you..it’s very frustrating..
    Thankyou
    (name removed)

Bear in mind the email arrived at 10.12am, and he rang me about 10.15am – I was indeed on the phone from 10.00 till 10.13.

10 minutes later, in reply to the telephone conversation we had about what he required I receive this:

Hello,I rang earlier today…to ask about putting the graphics onto my small portable stand..attached is a sample of the officially allowed artwork…the stand will be hingded in the middle front panel(to allow for easy storage in a bag)
please advise on cost and application if possible
    thanks
    (name removed)
and attached the usual tiny jpg which is unusable.

    My email reply was then:

Thank you for your enquiry, the jpg logo you sent will probably be blurry by the time it’s blown up in size to fit your stand so will not be suitable.

The cost would depend on the size you would require, so if you could let me know width & height I will gladly work out some prices for you.

With reference to your earlier email regarding my "phone always being engaged from 10.00am til 10.13am", I am very sorry that it caused you undue frustration and for that I apologize unreservedly.

I take point of your suggestion to "update and get more lines in" and fully understand that you cannot keep on redialing me.

I now have ordered the new update for my head (version 2.0) which allows both ears to be used independently so I can engage in two conversations using two phones at the same time (for which I will shortly place an order with BT for another phone line).

Unfortunately such update is not compatible with my mouth (version 1.0) which can only engage with a single conversation at any given time, but I hope a new software patch will be released soon.

    Best regards,

    Did I go too far?

    Thanks Jill,

I usually ignore the rude comments and just go with the work aspect, but on this occasion I couldn’t help myself.

Bear in I have no idea who this person is, so as a first email to be sent to me I found it a bit weird (I’m not easily offended, but this takes the biscuit!).

    Cheers,
    George

Lets just say you won’t be getting his order

Whilst it’s often frustrating to receive this sort of message, it is still counter productive to respond in this way. Best to "roll with the punches" and bite your tongue sometimes (even though you are obviously dealing with a dickhead).

Did I really say that? (I really should listen to my own advice sometimes) 😕 :you:

    Absolutely right Phill,

I normally ignore things like this, I had an hour of thinking of a good reply to it whilst I was fitting a job and thought "why not?", as sometimes you just have to.

I think you may have earned a customer for life (whether you want him or not)
Sometimes my flat-out bluntness lures people in.

Sometimes they deserve it, I wish I could be so blunt with customers but it is not in my nature no matter what is to hand to beat them to within an inch of their life. 😳
    I do like your reply though :lol1: 😎 😉

My wife is also a dozy one If I am on the office phone she will then call me on my mobile as the other phone is busy, what she seems to forget is that I am a one man band, classic DOH! moment 😳 The thing is she will do it at least once a week the dozy mare! :lol1: (chat.)

    Mike,

In 20 years I’ve never done something like this, even if I though about it a million times.

But I did write it as best I could, always polite and never discourteous – just a tad sarcastic.

I wonder why he hasn’t called me as of yet (i kept the phone free all day just in case…….not!)

Perhaps I should write him another email, any suggestions to what I could put in it?

Time to move on George….. Relax – you’ve done it now 😕

No point in beating yourself up about it. The world is about to end, so I reckon you will probably have bigger fish to fry this time tomorrow….:-?

Not beating myself up for it, just wondering what else to write to wind him up even more, specially seen that Monday everything comes to an end…. 😀

Hi George – time to move on up and if you ever get another reply you will probably get the customer for life …as Jill also said..

I once had a upstanding row with a Sales manager of a company I worked with… bearing in mind I had nothing to do with him as I was the Engineering manager and had a factory to keep running… He was always on my back for stupid niggly tiny things and one day I blew up!! Swore at him and told him where to get off… A few hours later he came and apologised to me and we became the best of friends… at work, at golf at aprties – everywhere… so once in a while letting off the steam does work.

Well you’ve really gone and done it now George.

Not only did the world not end yesterday – but you went and insulted a potential customer – and come monday morning your gonna have to live with that fact for the rest of your life 😕

Superb response, we get 200 emails a day and every now and again we get the odd stupid question and I cannot count the number of sarcastic replies I have been forced to amend.before sending by my sarcasm censor ( wife) one day I will sneak one past her but I usually start giggling and give it away…..the customer who asked me how big the 22 inch wheels were? Or. Is the 600 x 600 mm sign is that width or height ? Don’t you just love em, brightens my day sometimes
