hi all, not sure if this is the place to ask, but here goes.

i supply wholesale, a range of items to various wholesale and trade outlets, now recently i’ve been asked to make the same / similar by a large manufacturer, i agreed it was ok, but to pretect my design copyright, i wanted "manufactued in the uk, on behalf of…. by ….". they couldn’t do this as they wee going to use genereic packaging, so i said i’d put a little sticker on the back of each item, this they didn’t have a prob with, now, the order is for 2000 and my little girl is getting a bit bored doing all these stickers (only 1700 to go!),

    sooooo, to the point.
i tried to use a rubber stamp i have, it prints onto the vinyl backing paper (not the release side) but still takes an age to dry, is there any special rubber stamp ink / stamp maker who can supply stamps that use an ink which dried quickly, like an indelible pen?

    cheers.

    Hugh mate,
why not just print them on your laser? using any pre-defined self adhesive labels from office or pc world?

i could do Peter, but looking at the time it takes to peel off a sticker, and then stick it to a tape, at around 5 seconds an item it’s taking a while! not to mention the fact the customer could peel them off if they don’t want them on there. A rubber stamp would be so much quicker, weed.. flip upside down on the light bench and stamp away, then cut into individual items, job done, much quicker than handling individual stickers and tapes.

I’m not sure you will find an ink to use Hugh, as far as I remember anyway unless things have changed but in the packaging industry when the stamp/print expiry dates onto varnished items they have to leave a small area clear of varnish for the date otherwise it will not print/dry.

So if the large companies can’t do it I doubt there will be a simple cheap alternative 😕

but like I said things might have changed in the last 5 years 🙄

    cheers Warren,

was just hoping there was an ink i could use, either that or make a roller and run it the length of the back of the paper before i cut into individual bits.

took two of my kids 4hrs to stick a little sticker on the back of each, so woulda taken me almost a day… stuff that! still, the mark up makes it worth it!

i shall overcome! this customer is looking at buying 2000 every few months, so i’ve got a little time to find a way!

    Hugh,

Could you not look at getting a tape printed up and apply it with one of those tape gun hoojars?

hope i got the right end of the stick 😉

print a large label with the words repeated lots and lots stick that on the rear before you cut it up. one set of words will be readable.

or cut a pen open and use that ink on your pad. pad will dry quick tho

hope you are paying at least min wage poor girl keep sticking

What about a corner shop price gun! Guns are under £50 and you can buy the labels permanent and pre-printed. Ok you’ll have to buy quite a few but at 2000 a month you’ll go through them.

Sorry if I’m totally off Hugh but I’m not fully understanding – must be the beer!

    thanks for the answers guys,

i did consider the pricing gun / pre-printed labels route, and it’s still an option, but i would rather do it in a wat they couldn’t remove. I sell a product with a very very good reputation within the industry it sits, I have worked hard to ensure it does not get copied by the big boys, i can take on smaller people and ebay sellers should they copy it, but could not take on the big boys, so since i can’t beat em… i’m joining them. I am now making it for another manufacturer who will be selling it to their wholesalers and trade outlets, the problem i forsee is other big boys seeing a product that looks just like mine, and thinking to themselves "if they can copy it, then so can we", then i have a battle i can’t win, though i will go after who-ever makes it for them.

so, ideally it wants to be a way of marking the rear backing paper before i cut it up, that is difficult to remove. impossible even.

one prob noticed with stickers, other than time and money, is they make what would be a flat pile, a bulging in the middle pile!

Chris, yes, they’ve all earned! 1p each! + a bonus! so about a tenner each all told for a few hours!

one thing i’d considered was the possibility of making a template (get one cut from perspex of something), then simply lay it on the back of the film paper, give it a light dusting with an aerosol paint, job done, dry in a moment or two, and non-removable.

    Hugh,
get some black pad printing ink, it dries instantly due to the solvents in it evaporating.
