Here is a job I did last week. We wanted to replace the existing attraction with something that would last a little bit longer and look nicer. I took my measurments from a broken piece we had laying around. It’s a total of 4 seperate pieces fit together to make one. It’s 3/4" plastic material (not sure on the technical name, sorry I didn’t purchase it) routed out with a 1/4" router bit on our Gerber Dimension 200 router. The plastic cut great until I forgot to empty out the vacuum and had my hose back-up on me. That was a nice mess! Everyone here at work was impressed with how well they fit together, I just told them I got lucky. 😀 I was definately impressed that I did it right the first time and didn’t mess up anything.

Nice work Marek! 😀 (Or Marmaduke as I refered to you the other day 😳 Sometimes I could swear I’m lexicdy! 🙄 )

Could I ask, probably a daft question, but what the hell is it? 🙄 😳

    Thanks.
Robert, I do both. I really like running the router, it makes lots of noise to keep co-workers away! I always laugh when I look across the shop and see my supervisors’ door shut when I am running it. 😀

    Dewi,
I was going to explain it in the first post but I didn’t want it to get too long. I know most of us on here have a short attention span. I was watching a baseball game last night and it started raining….wait…what was I talking about?
It’s one of the attractions here at LEGOLAND, basically it is some models of alligators and frogs made out of LEGOs. There are some water cannons you shoot at the frogs to make their mouths open and stuff. The thing I made has three buttons on it that you push. One of the buttons makes the frog make some noise, the other two make them open their mouths (I think, haven’t played with them in a while).

I missed the Marmaduke reference Dewi, most people call me Maverick from the Top Gun movie.

Wasn’t Maverick the name of the bloke who gambled on the Steamboats of the Mississippi?

I bet you spend all day playing with the attractions really and you have little elves doing all the work for you 😉 :lol1: Seriously though, it must be fun working there, I’d love it! 😀

    Yes, and yes. 😀
It’s mostly fun. We have a big Star Wars event coming up though that has me a bit stressed at the moment. They need every sign I make approved by LucasFilm Ltd. and I have a vacation coming up so I have to get them started before I leave. They never told me I’d be the only designer in the whole park when I started here. Good experience though so I guess I can’t complain too much.

i kow exactly what you mean about the noise and stuff mate…
its weird though, because of last years accident with powerdrill and this years with scissors, ive got the worst paranoia when using the router. currently training a young lad on how to use it and i bet he is terrified by all the health and safety crap i am chucking at him… at the end of the day, he will be safe i guess… even if he is working in a knights coat of arms? :lol1: :lol1:

    😀
It’s good to be a little bit scared of the machine you are using, keeps you on your toes. Or keeps your toes on. 😉

Handy StarWars tip, but you need to live near electricity pylons….

Grab a 6ft sunbed tube, available in blue or pink, and some standard pipe lagging. Wrap the base of the tube in the pipe lagging, then stand beneath an electricity pylon (best at night) and you have your very own lightsaber! 😀

One small note though, you do run the risk of a small electric shock, maybe 20,000 volts or so… nothing to worry about if you have good life insurance 🙄

Which of the displays do you design Marek? The backdrops or the actual attractions? You could do some great effects with the droids they have in StarWars!

All the stuff I am doing right now is pretty boring. 🙁
I’m just doing a bunch of A-frame type signs describing the events for the weekend.

Rob, that pic reminds me of a poster that was printed by my company way back in the early 70’s and was stapled to the ceiling up untill only 5 years ago when we moved out of the building. It was a similar coat of armour with one bit of the lower arm and gauntlet lying on the floor and the punch line was Carelessness will find the chink in your armour

Very good as a early health and safety poster I thought.

Talking of health and safety, i worked in a chemical plant for about 11
years and will always remember the first thing the Safety officer told me

“Never put your fingers where you wouldn’t put your C**K”

Yes its rude, its crass, but it does make you think

    Cheers
