At boot-up the machine does the usual cleaning to heads but the click noise as the wipers come into contact has become really loud and there is a squealing noise rather like a jammed motor or drive.
Heads now give a very poor print and the print test show much missing from both black and colour bars.
    Any suggestions?

clean the metal tube the wipers slide on and grease it lightly, watch your hands there are sharp metal edges in this area
usually it will screech and a service error will show on display

Mine started doing that when I fitted new wipers. Turns out they were thicker and less flexible than the old ones

    Thanks Phil-
I had a quick peek this afternoon but could not identify the rods that Rob mentioned.
In any event I am promised a call by a techie from Sign + Digital on Monday and hopefully she will sort it out. The printer is not overworked by any means and I have it 4 years (an upgraded sp300 to 300v).The encoder strip was changed two years back and I daresay it should have had a service call long before this.
No idea of expected cost the callout will ammout to as the techie will travel from Dublin-
a round trip of 350 miles.
    Regards,
    Barry

    Yes, Richard-

Most likely you’ll have to remove the complete wiper unit from the machine to access the "rod". Unless the metal rod is spotless the motor will not be strong enough to carry the wipers past the print heads.

Elaine was here and identified that the Pump Motor
and the Pump Sub Assy need replacement.
    Will try Digiprint tomorrow.
    Prices seem reasonable–less than 100-
    Regards and thanks for guidance.

    Great service from Digiprint Supplies.
Ordered pump and motor Wednesday morning and delivered here
in west of Ireland before noon on following day. Installed within the hour and after a power-clean all is well.
Thanks to all for your interest and hints.
