is it the lines in the centre or the mottle look?
confused. -
see the problem are you sure the material is not buckling got to be flat.
-
Just done another and checked for flatness, infact there was a couple of ‘bulges’ but not where the pinching print was!!!!
🙁
-
are your heaters working okay?, maybe you do not have even heat?
-
I have moved the print to the other end of the printer and tried printing it horizontally instead of vertically, but still no joy

their is a clear strip that the print head travels on,it goes the full length of the printer. give that a clean with a lint free cloth and it should fix the problem.
-
already done that Claire, made no difference.

This may have been suggested :-
Are you sure that you are printing on vinyl that accepts inks? – i.e. Are you sure it’s not ordinary white or clear vinyl ?
It looks like that to me…

got to be something simple
have you triedwhat software and rip
possible to convert to bitmap and or pdf then print
create a new file similar and try that.i think if it was a mechanical thing the width would not alter just wander.
there is a encoder on the driven roller shaft but the circles are printed correctly along with the text. so probably not that.chris

I’d try printing in several formats too
Looks to me like you may have a small crack in your flat cable driving the print heads so it is not driving all the jets at some point. Or you have a faulty head pump or maybe a cap that is not holding enough ink in reserve.
Seems strange though I must admit. The fact that it happens in the same area is the clue I guess. Does the flat cable going to the head have any creases or damage?

well at least your printer is ok
sign lab cant comment

still dont know what the problem is…
all i can see is wavy lines connecting the family members, but thats just curve errors surly….what generated the file? you in signlab or customer supplying a generated from family tree software.
-
dave, did it print top to bottom of the pic or left to right?
is it a vector file? originally.
I’m assuming it is ok within sign lab on the screen?
I think its your printer though, not the file.
-
Dave, if you email me the file I’ll have a look/print it with sign lab for you.

Dave,
Have you checked the lines with the node editor, I’m assuming you are using SignLab. If some of the straight lines nodes had, for some reason, changed to curved line nodes it might produce an effect like that.Steve
-
Thin Steves on right track, don’t have a printer but logical way to narrow it down to me would be to print it upside down and see if problem is at same place on picture (drawing software fault) or same place on printer (printer fault).

such is the problem of having two threads on the same problem!
Created in Signlab 7.1 using rectangle/circle tools to create the lines curves etc, welded as it was going to be cut in vinyl initially, then when I checked for any stray nodes it changes all nodes to a different type (curve) that you cannot change back to straight(and this maybe the problem) but if you sent to cutter it cuts straight!!!
It has been printed in diferent areas of the printer, vertically and horizontally and it always appears in the same place on the file, hence not the printer. As can be seen from the pic of the converted file the problem seems to be in the file make-up.
I have had someone else print it and it came out fine on their printer (hot)
Sent the file to Nick who is looking at it.Going in today to redraw all the lines, as I need to print it today.
Thanks for all the input and help so far guys.
Cheers

Dave, I use SL, not sure what you mean about the nodes not being able to change back to straight nodes, ah, yes I do. (Just come back to the keyboard.)
I think I know what might be happening – In SL click Options > SignLab Set up > General Preferences > bottom left on the page is the choice to change the default setting of PolyArc or Polygon. In Polyarc ALL the nodes look like curve nodes, in Polygon there are the 3 kinds straight, straight to curve and curve. Set it to Polygon. My program has the annoying habit of changing this setting occasionally.
Go back to your file, select all the items that have the the editable nodes and in the Arrange drop down select Convert to > select Polygon. Now try editing the nodes and see if you have curve and straight ones shown.
Might have led you down the wrong path here, but it might help. I’m running my Roland at the moment so if you like I’d happily try the file.Steve

Steve you are a genius 😀 when I converted it to Polygon the file changed to look like the ‘pinched’ printing and new nodes appeared!! changed them to straight and thats it sorted.
Thanks to all who took the time to look into this and offer advice.

DaveNever got it Dave?
Nick.

Dave ,
Pleased you got it sorted – I think it’s the first time I’ve actually helped someone fix a problem on here! 😀Steve

quote Dave Bruce:Ok back at it again, I converted the file to PDF from Signlab and look what happened 😮
It came out looking just like the printed job, so whats doing that?
Dave
Dave, I just saved it as a PDF from sl and it looks fine to me?
Nick.
