Any reliable engineers near the Swansea area? Need pinch rollers replacing but may as well have it serviced as well. It is a VP540 (I think).

    Thanks

Hi Andrew, we are in Bridgend and use AD Young in Bristol, great service. Do you need the pinch rollers or the whole pinch roller assembly changed? I ask because I have started another thread highlighting the issues we have had with these assemblies. You can change these yourself.

Have you tried calling Peter Whitehead of PWSE?
I think they are based in Clevendon.

Thanks. I will try both and see how it goes.

Pinch rollers stopped holding the roll straight at times. We had spares when we bought the printer but it turns out they were wrong for this machine. I would get new ones but we have not really used the machine for 6 months and would think it could do with a service as well.

You might get away with replacing just the pinch roller which is easy to do and a consumable item (see part 11 of attached diagram). Otherwise it’ll be the whole assembly which is definitely an engineers job. We’ve had a bit of a run in doing these lately.

Stafford, is this just because of the age of the machine? Or is it linked to the issues we have had with the QC of the pinch roller body.

In terms of replacing the whole pinch roller I can send you pictures of where to drill the hole to replace without taking the machine apart. It’s quite a delicate job but makes it so much easier for future replacement.

I think it’s age related personally. A lot of the Roland printers we have on cover (and we have more now than ever before) are of a good age now. SP, VP, XC etc. It just seems funny that we were only discussing it recently and suddenly we’ve had a few go in a short time.

Thanks for the offer of info on drilling etc, but we have the replacement down to a fine art now. Plus if you were paying good money for a service contract, I’m sure you’d want a component replaced with a complete genuine assembly as much as I would :smiles:

I just spoke with my engineer and the last set they fitted lasted 10 days? We had the option of taking the machine apart under contract but because of the issues opted for a hole drilled so we can access it without taking it apart and change ourselves. Just makes it quicker. On our fifth set now 🙁

That’s madness!! Are they genuine Roland assemblies you’re having fitted? And by a reputable engineer?

Yep, genuine, have the part numbers and by a reputable engineer. It’s pretty appalling that the last set they fitted only lasted 10 days. The set I have now have cracked but ‘fortunately’ in the same place on each unit so they sort of knock each other out. Cutting is fairly accurate as long as you are careful, hence why I am thinking of upgrading all machines.

Wow, that’s extreme. I don’t know what to say really, I’ve never known it on any other model. Just in case they differ, the part numbers I use are:

    Roland VP/VPi
    6700460210 (left)
    6700460220 (right)
    6700460300 (centre)

    Thanks for the info Stafford.

I am glad Jason mentioned drilling a hole as we had done this previously to switch over the roller. Makes sense to give access to the screw that way.
