  • Roland Pinch Rollers Problem

I have posted about this before but I thought it would be useful to re-post to give some feedback. I seem to be going through pinch roller assemblies very quickly, the new ones seem to crack. The engineer who deals with my service contract believe that the plastic is more brittle. I can believe this as I have been through at least 4 full sets in the last six months. We have been very careful with the machine when changing rolls and using kid gloves to open and close the rollers but they still start to break.

I decided to give Roland a ring, before this the engineer told me that whatever I raise they will deny any issues with the part and say they have not had a ny complaints……. He was right, I called explained the problem, sent some photos of the cracks in the housing and the response I had was that no one has complained so therefore there is no issue.

So who has had problems? If you have please respond to this post with the model of your machine etc..

I’m under contract so these are replaced as part of the contract but I don’t really want to swapping these out every month.

    Hi Jason.

This is a common fault, but not THAT bloody common!! Are you replacing them with genuine Roland ones? I’d say we probably replace one about every 6 months, but we have something like 100 of these machines on cover so I’d say at worst case, one every 5 years or so.

Hi Stafford, had a couple of replies previously to a similar post so more common than we think and yes they were replaced with genuine roland ones. The machines are VP’s so a few years old but meticulously maintained. As soon as I can get to a milling machine I’m going to make a replacement aluminium set.

Sounds like a god idea. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Simon, hopefully there will be others posting with a similar problem. I now release the pinch roller lever in slow motion to be as gentle as possible. Both of mine have cracked again but they seem to have compensated the cut most of the time because of this.

The original assemblies had been on for about 7 years.

Stafford is there any adjustment in the lever to reduce the pressure on the assemblies if that makes sense?

We also had to replace the pinch rollers on our old Sp540 albeit about 3-4 year ago,

Not that I’m aware of I’m afraid. We’ve got an old SP300 I’ll be stripping down to train a new engineer on in the next few weeks so I’ll have a look to see if there’s anything that can be done to the lever assembly while I’m in there. I’ll let you know if I find anything.
