  • Roland modified pump ?

    Hi
is anyone running a Roland printer with the new modified pumps fitted and do they find it a better than the old system when using max inks.
Running a Sol 2 which i rebuilt earlier this year with new B&P pumps, new heads but feel that it struggles at times to keep the heads clear. Mod kit is approx £200 which isn’t a problem but i’am interested to get anyones views if they are running a modified machine.

    hi kev

i was told by roland you have to change all 3 pumps together, i hope that is £200 for the 3 pumps and fitting kit NOT EACH ?.

i thought of getting a kit in stock so as when the next pump goes fit the lot they are ment to last considerably longer.

Kevin do you find the heads blocking a lot with this mod kit?

    Hi Chris
yeah £200 for the kit & 3 pumps. Pumps are £42.50 each, Kit one off purchase of £51.00. You remove pump & stepper motors fit adapter plate & fit new pumps you then adjust machine software to a modified cleaning cycle which the new pumps are designed to stand up to.

my understanding is that the new pumps are a lot more reliable & won’t need replacing in a hurry….which was a bit of a problem with the old ones

i’m looking at actually doing it, just curious if anyone is running a machine already using them & their findings since the conversion. The £200 isn’t the problem a few printed meters & its paid for but don’t see the point of changing if there isn’t an improvement. As an ex engineer i’ve seen modifications implemented on machines that have been a complete waste of time & created more faults than they solved just trying to avoid going down that road. I’ll may be try them & post my findings

Cheers Kevin was mulling it over myself, the reason i say that is a girl i know with another company i help out had problems with the light ink heads blocking ie light magenta and i think it was her light cyan which makes me wary about this

sometimes the problem with lc & lm clogging is due to some profiles actually not using the lc & lm colors although the profile says that its a 6 color profile. Seems to be common on low quality settings etc but have seen it on standard profiles. So the heads clogg whilst running back & fourth over the heated vinyl. If there is going to be any problems then i would expect to see it across the entire set of heads.

With the old pumps you could hear if one of them wasn’t working….not going to be so easy to tell now 🙂

I’ve been told that the new pump is much stronger and is more like using the syringe, they also last a lot longer, having said that my old pump is still going ok on my Cadet (converted SP750)
    Now I’ve said that it’ll break 🙂
