  • Roland inks vs third party sunmicroink – advice please?

Posted by Shawn Bentley on April 8, 2015 at 9:18 pm

hi guys, some advice if possible, I’m using sun micro ink in my xc540 pro111 and I’ve been told by various people in the trade that they are a good ink (for a third party ink), I’ve never hd a problem with them since I’ve had machine and it ran on it prior to me owning it, i also get told i should stick to roland inks, could i ask what the difference is and why roland are better as i pay £45 plus vat at the moment and i think roland are £75 plus vat, many thanks for your thoughts in advance, regards shawn

    Hi Shawn,

I can completely understand the appeal of a product that is almost half price, ultimately though they end up causing multiple problems and the damage caused to your machine is not worth the initial saving made on the inks. The consistency of the ink also varies which can cause a colour shift resulting in prints with an inconsistency in colour which in turn can cause problems with your customers when printing repeat jobs etc.
We have had a few customers move to third party inks as the pricing initially looks appealing but when problems start to occur, suppliers tend to wash their hands of any responsibility and not admit that the problems are ink related leading to an unresolved expensive problem to sort.
We also find that third party inks dramatically affect the condition of the print heads which usually leads to devaluing a printer when it comes to trading in against a new one.

As a Roland dealer we may be biased but as a distributor who will only ever supply the right solution to our customers, there’s a reason we don’t supply and support third party inks.

    I hope that helps,

    Cat

I have used 3rd party bulk inks for over 6 years with no issues……maybe I have just been lucky?

OEM ink I believe is Epson ink?……because Roland and Mimaki use Epson heads.

Roland do not support 3rd party ink?
Well they were certainly pushing the Colourific UV ink and conversion of their printers at Sign UK this year

    Hi
used 3rd party inks for years (nazdar) with no problems, you cannot condemn all 3rd party inks because they ate not supported by the printer manufacturers because some of the 3rd party ink companies have been formulating inks way before large format technology began. Also as John as stated if a 3rd party company had not spent time developing the UV light bar we would not have this technology which is being adopted by Roland and probably got other manufacturers searching for alternative tech as well to keep up.
