Recently my pc60 head blew, so I rang Roland who said I could send the machine to them for repair at a cost of £444.00 or I could just buy the head. I was a little worried about fixing it myself but the man said there was a service manual I could get so I decided to go down that road and fix it myself. This is where Roland get funny. When I tried to order the head and manual I was told that the manual was not available or allowed outside of Roland. OK, I can get one off the signboards, which I did( thanks again Richard). So I phone up Roland again just to order the head this time, I am then told that Roland don’t support the PC60 anymore and have not had any new heads in this year he also said they don’t make them anymore and they aren’t getting anymore stock of them. Strange then that they said they had them in when I phoned Tuesday. When I asked how they were going to fix my machine if I had sent it Tuesday he started falling over his words and making excuses. I asked where I could get a head the reply was "you can’t" So then my next question was "So in that case I might as well throw it away? His reply "Yes".
I personally feel that they have a few heads but they don’t want me fitting it myself so they can charge their labour rate of £75.00 per hour.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a head from anywhere else?

Sorry to hear about your trouble Steve. It never ceases to amaze me how these large companies can spend so much money on marketing and advertising and then blow it all over a few quid at the customer service end.

IMO, you should get this rude guys name and take your case higher up the food chain – maybe someone at Roland cares about their reputation? (:)

Ring again on Monday and try to order the part, you may get someone else and the sale may just go through.

Or inform them that you are throwing the printer away and buying a competitors printer and never going to deal with them again.

It may just be enough to get the head.

As far as I know the head is the same as the alps printer, Alps stopped making these a few years ago and early this year said they were no longer supporting repairs of them.
Oki made them under licence for a while and now you can get a Powis parker for $1800.00 which is the Alps MD-5000 printer, so some one is still making the heads for them.

hi mate sorry to here you are having problems getting a head, last year i got one from Roland no problems for £220 but i did hear they were getting short on supplies. I think you will get one but to be honest even though i still use my pc60 they are crap and the babysitting they need is just more than there worth i have wasted as many jobs as i have printed and at £10 a cart its the most expensive printer in the world. Unless you have a market for this printer I.E small stuff there just not worth spending money on i wish when the head went last time i had binned it but i only use it as i say for tiny stickers

good luck mate I’m sure there is a head out there on a shelf waiting to be brought

We had a similar problem with our Seiko ColorPainter 64s. They wouldn’t sell us the head unless a trained tech did the install. Truthfully, I am glad they did do it because of the work involved, but that still should be up to the customer. We weren’t in warranty status anymore so what difference would it make if we broke something else on it, its not like they would have to replace it ($1500 per head).

Thanks for the replies I’m still trying to find a new head for the PC60,if I get one I’ll fix it & eBay it, if I can’t get one I’ll keep it just as a cutter. Decided to buy an ink-jet now seeing as this head blowing seems to be a common problem and sourcing a head is a job in itself. I’m was thinking of Uniform Cadet Plus but after reading some of the posts it would appear a grenadier is a better buy. One thing I do know is I won’t be phoning Roland.

I had a new head fitted to my PC60 last year. Supplied and fitted by Kentech Services. Great service was around £300 all in. Definitely recommended, very nice guy and professional service. How feasible is it to forget about the printing, which is uneconomical anyway, and just use the machine as a cutter. I think I am going to try to hold out with mine until the business can sustain the cost of a decent print/cut machine.

    Hi Chris
I didn’t know roland and uniform are one of the same. I want to repair my PC60. I use it for lots of small contour cut decals occasionally I attempt slightly larger prints but I would like to keep it purely for the ability it has for printing metallic foils as I have work for this.

I can get the head but not the service manual for the pc 60. Can someone help me with getting a manual?

    Thanks
