Thought I’d get around to uploading a general smattering & scattering of what I’ve been up to in the last year.

Some better than others but customers always delighted.

    Good stuff David.

How did you do the stripe on the Motive8 van? Is is normal cut vinyl or printed?

And are most of those stand off letters vinyl faced foamex? They look great.

    Cheers,

    G.

stripe is just two colours of 3M 50 series – nothing printed on that job.

The stand-off letters. Mix of 10, 19mm foamex faced with either vinyl or digital print. Exception being the nickel & dime which is 50mm HDEPS (high density polystyrene) with 3mm PVC faces

Some very nice work there Dave, great stuff mate. I can see you have been busy!

    as way of constructive crit….
One gripe for me is the lack of Trim on the signs. I am not sure in all cases the backing boards substrate. but if not foam board which will rise like puff pasty when pinned on, then the overall appearance of the sign is frowned on by peppering with fixings through the face.

as i say, some nice signs, just feel that set in a trim or formed as a pan would finish and present them nicely.

thanks for taking the time to post your work mate, very much appreciated.

    Constructive crit always welcomed.

Don’t use foam unless it’s 10+mm and it will NOT warp ‘like puff pastry’ being designed with that in mind.

Ideally – won’t touch the thinner 3/5mm stuff as it’s garbage for signboards…and comp is nearly as cheap…and doesn’t break when rocks are tossed at it (we do a lot of signs in rough areas).

lack of trim / tray / visible fixings…well, where there isn’t trim or a formed tray then it’s 99% down to client budget not wanting to stretch to it. Usually comes down to "it’ll be an extra £xxx to frame/fold…nah…don’t bother…". Yes, we can advise – but I’d rather be paid than it go elsewhere.

I’ve done a ton of framed stuff just no photos!! Went through just over 9 lengths (55m) of lovely white eurotrim 100 trim last week on just two jobs.

Presently doing a nice set of halo LED lit stainless (white coated) letters. Not exactly cheap to buy…but do look the ‘biz’…so can charge accordingly…and super busy doing revised window graphics as the alcohol advertising laws have all changed in Scotland…and Dundee’s adopting a ‘zero’ policy.

    hi dave

completely agree with you on the scenario of "the customer dictates". there for lose job or do what we are asked. i just commented on it as there was so many the same.

for instance, the Sizzlers sign is nicely designed, but losses its appeal by the lack of frame and the "button on pillow" effect created by screws through the face over tight or near edge.
also the "Created by Amo" the screws could have been replaced by stand off locators to give extra dimension without lowering its cosmetic appeal, or loose the dimmensional letters as its not very apparent viewed at any sort of distance and replace with vinyl. in turn adding frame which will give a better finish. by that i mean "a bit of a compromise on how its manufactured may aid in reducing cost and in turn, create a better finished sign.

as i said, maybe just personal taste for me, i am merely mentioning as these types of framed sign is one of our biggest sellers, fastest fitted and most profitable jobs.

All good work David well done as Harry says the Sequence is very nice and the GOA works really well

The snax shop makes me go funny when I look at it, it looks like the shop is leaning over. don’t know if its the slanted type or the way the photo has been taken 😕

Hey David, wouldn’t it have been cheaper to use aluminium for GOA? are the leds strip lights or clustered? I use strip lights here but can’t seem to lose the hot spots. Are these about 50mm deep?

    sorry for the questions 😳

Price made little difference. LED strips were RGB colour bars about 40mm deep embedded in the fascia (not ours, a ‘lighting specialist’ did these)…couple of hundred £ each but you get no spotting as it’s well diffused.

Lettering – 70/80mm deep, internal polycarb tray for support only – LED’s for the lettering as modules strung round the sides facing inwards so the light is not direct just reflected.

We’ve just completed an RGB wall colour wash system in a local nightclub. Dead easy and it needn’t cost a fortune as I made the lot in-house. Photo’s difficult to take as the high frequency the colour changing module works at (600Hz) plays havoc with the iphone camera as due to certain patents apple don’t have a frequancy shift facility / flicker reduction ability…

10mm machined PVC, red reflective faces, internal LED halos of text & the outer board (not dark enough to see though).

    …looks better in real life!
