  • Robert Horne payments

Posted by Fred McLean on August 3, 2010 at 10:46 am

Just opened the mail to find a letter from the credit manager advising us of a 2.5% charge for paying them by credit charge card!!!!!!!

We’ve advised them our future payments will be paid by cheque!

    What’s every-one elses view??

    Cheers,

    Fred

We have an account with them and pay by BACS each month. So much easier to open an account in my opinion.

    Cheers

I could be wrong mate, but I think its normal procedure to charge for the cards vendor charges.
I do not know what RHG card charges are, but UKSB pays up to about 4.2% on some card debits depending on card type and world location. obviously "we" swallow this charge but the charge/loss isn’t huge due to how much is being paid. but lets say its £5000, its a fair loss just for taking a payment.

    Hi Gary/Rob

We do have an account and we pay our account with a charge card and the way we time it we get virtually get 60 days credit 😀

Rob we understand the way credit works it’s just when we started paying our account this way there wasn,t a transaction charge!!

I too have started paying them by BACS. I previously paid using my business charge card which gave me an extra months credit depending on when I paid. But I’ve started paying by BACS because it’s easier and cheaper!

I’m set up with them on a direct debit so the money due each month comes out my account automatically saving me having to do it myself and having to remember.

Robert, some companies do make a charge some don’t, in the past Europoint didn’t charge you for paying by credit card.

It’s now going to mean that everything I buy from them is going to cost me more as it’s the only way I can pay them.

i thought if you paid by debit card there was no charge, only when paying with credit cards would the charge be made… i hope!

Unfortunately not…charges can be applied to either.

However – they are not allowed to surcharge more than the bank / operating company charges them.

    quote :

Credit and Debit Card Payments – Surcharging is permitted where sellers accept credit or debit cards as a means of payment for an item purchased. Such sellers will have merchant accounts with a bank or credit card company. Sellers may not pass on to the buyer a charge greater than the amount of the commission payable by the seller to the bank processing that credit or debit card payment.
In other words, sellers may recoup the charges incurred as a direct consequence of accepting the credit or debit card, but no more. Please note that under English law, sellers have a legal right to pass onto the buyer the charges incurred for a credit or debit card transaction. However, this right does not apply to electronic money services

Well I’ve just this minute been told that Robert Horne are not now taking credit cards and sending out stuff, they are charging the card and when payments have cleared in two weeks they will send out stuff the only other way is to pay by bacs which will take three days before they send out goods or set up an account. Apparently this policy change was effective from 1st Aug. Its really left me in it.
