  • Roadside sign regulations?

Posted by Adam McMonagle on December 6, 2021 at 1:53 pm

Hi, I just tried to check on this via highways uk but no clear answers. Does anyone know the regulations for the distance from the road for a large (6 sheet) size sign. The client is on a country road with thin verges, no pathway. I am sure there are regulations, anyone?

    Hi Adam,

I’m afraid I cannot help with specifics but, finding a sign and measuring the distance would be a last / best resort?

You cannot place anything on Highways without permission.

If its on private land, then subject to planning if above 0.3m2

Thanks for the feedback so far, the land is owned by the client, its just that it is very close to the road

i think just by looking around the main roads and high streets, you should be able to see an approximate allowance for signs coming in from the road edge. if you get that, then i imagine on the country roads the stipulations may be slacker (so to speak).

we all see these type of sign posts on country roads. which i imagine are to help when the verge is tight?

Cheers Peter, I think I can get the client to move it in to another area so hopefully wont need to worry about it being too close to traffic, love the bent road sign 👍
