Road sign installation ideas please
Posted by John Harding on February 22, 2011 at 10:23 pmgot to put a quote together quote includes 2 road signs (76mm posts) – part of the brief is as follows
"Please note these pole need to be easily removable to allow HGVâs to exit the site. Some form of sleeve in the ground would suffice "
anyone done similar? – is there an outer sleeve available from any suppliers suitable to accept a post snugly??
all ideas welcome

Ashby quoted me once for a similar things, job never went ahead but I know they do them, sink the larger posts in to the hole and the thinner one attached to the panel so can be slid out when required.
cheers

That’s about the size of it. I made one nearly 20yrs ago for the local chip shop, and they still use it. Admittedly the panel has been re-done but the frame I welded up’s still going strong.

I have done a few of these John,
Last one I did, I used 76mm post and 89mm posts as the sockets, from Ashby, worked a treat, thought they were going to wobble badly with the gap difference, but all was good đ
btw, your customer didn’t get back to me, so no beer for you at SignUK đ

Hello Lynn, I spoke to John the other day and he mentioned it, I think he’s going for the Wednesday as I probably will as I missed it last year.
All seems pretty quiet on that front, where did Peter’s post go đ

I’m definitely going and probably for two days. Had offered to help organise a get together but had no takers back last December I think đ
For those that are interested, I think a drink or three in the bar and follow on from there in order.
Also, we have a local metal fabricator who would make the posts up for us including the frame. For simple stuff, it works out cheaper than Ashby and you are dealing with someone local which is alot easier. Have a look in your area, I am sure you might find someone.

It’s worth having a play first John,
It’s probably not the snuggest of fits, but it did the job well for me, the last one I did using this method was two panels and 3 posts, forming a triangle and all was good…. you can always drill trough posts and sockets when fitted and insert a locking pin of some kind -
Hi Martin – yes m8 I need to slide it in nice n snug đ they are seperate posts with 2 x 600mm road sign on each post and I dont want it wobbling about đ
