  • Road sign CE markings, advice please?

Posted by Chris Wilson on September 7, 2018 at 4:12 pm

    Hi folks,

We normally do these in house. But as I was on holiday boys put this through with a trade supplier.

Are these 3M marks a thing? We do in cut vinyl. Never had the printed in. Client won’t be to fussed but before I sound like an idiot to the supplier is this normal?

All road signs need to be CE certified. It’s a legal requirement and a perfect example how vested interests have pushed through legislation to protect their market by limiting the competition.

Of course we can all make road signs that are perfectly functional – but we can only do it legally if we have CE certification.

I believe all road sign need to be ce marked. Sure I read it somewhere but I’m no expert. I’m sure somebody with more knowledge will chip in.

    Ah ok. No problem.
Never seen it before up here and any time I order vinyl for them I always explain what they are for and to order the correct grade to make sure we are compliant for our customer but it seems maybe we are not… not that we do many. Will make sure I change this.

    Thanks graeme,

We bit annoyed as we only started doing them at the start of the year for one client and I called our supplier who deals on reflective and explained and wanted to make sure I was buying and quoting for the correct stuff, as it’s big construction firm and I didn’t want them or us to be put in a situation where something wasn’t correct. This was never mentioned though. Or advised. On the other hand maybe I should of looked up the information myself instead of relying on information from another.

It’s not the vinyl itself that needs ce certification, it’s the business that is making the road sign. You could be using exactly the same materials as anyone that is ce certified, but your signs would be illegal whereas the signs made by the company that has ce certification aren’t.
