Hmmmm … I`m totall new to this so forgive my dumbness. I have just bought a second hand Encad Novajet 700 and obviously want to get it set up to the best of its ability. I have bought GO+ inks so I can do banners etc and have been told RIP software is also needed. I don`t have loads of money to throw at this so is it possible to run it without RIP or is it just too slow??

    Any help and advice needed

We had (and still have sat in the stockroom) an Encad 750. You do need a RIP as windows will not allow you to use the full width of the paper printing directly via the windows printer driver.

For basic requirements flexisign’s production manager has a built in RIP and profiles for the encad printer. this is more than sufficient, at least that way you can also plot from the using the same program. This may also be the case with sign lab and other sign making software but i dont know for certain

the other thing you will need is a print server

    hope this helps

Mate, get the best RIP you can afford…If you can’t afford it…Well, the printer makes a great boat anchor.

The RIP is the brain of your printer…If you have a crap RIP then you’ll have a crap print. What sort of RIP does Encad recommend?

    **Edit**

You may also not need a print server…Just alot time to your main computer to perform the RIP. I’ve got a ‘puter with 4 gig of RAM to perform my RIP and it takes no time at all…Unfortunately, I have to stay off the RIP computer while it RIPs just to make sure it gets all the memory it needs.

i would look at the print server as it is a small device designed to take the load of your computer so you can still use it,

they are not very expensive and typically plug into the paralell port of the printer

    Thanks guys
I am struggling along without the RIP software. I can`t justify spending all that on RIP software when I can buy a solvent printer with the software included for £7500.Seems I am better off saving my money for the Solvent printer.

    Cheers
