    Hi guys!
I have a client that carries out repair jobs on a major uk delivery companies vans. The design looks neat. the only thing is they state the material must be rimarc and this is used on very deep recesses. Have looked at their previous sign co’s work and I have got to say it is the worst job I have seen. They are using this material into very deep recesses and the whole thing is popping out. There are also loads of cut lines and splits on this. The body shop told me their client insists on the highest quality??? I was asked if I would do one van for them using stock they had in, so after warning them it was the wrong matts for the job and I was no way offering a guarantee with the work they agreed. When it was done it did look good. But of course it will do for a bit. They now want me to do 15 vans a week for them with this ****. I only want to do work that I can guarantee but I can’t guarantee this. Lots of work and good money, but when it goes t*ts up I dont want to get the flack and a bad reputation. I’ve told him he will have to sign a disclaimer and he has agreed, But I am sure this will backfire. Not sure if I should kick this one in the head.

The material is no good for the recesses, and there is as for as I can see no exact colour match. I know how to fit vinyl and can say I know what I’m doing! This material is not popular with anyone I know.

Karl, if the customer has been told by a previous sign company that this material is OK then they may be thinking you are just trying to bump up the prices. As well as just telling them that the material is not suitable you could always download the spec sheet and show them that Rimarc do not reccommend this vinyl for recess work. At least that way if there was some sort of comeback you could prove to them that it was not due to your bad fitting.
if they want to protect their own reputation they should be prepared to at least listen to you because at the end of the day it can’t be good for their own image if they have tatty looking vans on the road because they won’t listen to someone who knows what he is talking about.

Thanks for that. The proof is already there on the older vans. When I say older I am talking about van with a 56 reg. It is like talking to a brick wall when you talk to this guy.
1.) He can see it’s Crap.
2.) He no longer wants to use the last guy.
3.) But he wants to change nothing.
Is it me or could it be a drug problem?
He’s told me he called the last signchap in and had words on his quality of fitting and gave him a warning. Talking straight, he won’t get as far as a warning with me if I take the job on.

Ah, I think I’ve seen these vans. 😀

If it’s what I think it is, there is no acceptable match in any decent vinyl, which was as much to do with the gloss level as the actual colour.

My concern was that the repairer buys a lot of stuff for other end users from us and I didn’t want to tarnish our good standing with them. I made excuses and walked away.

No. Not them. I thought Interlink were red and blue.

My customer repairs Business Post, Enterprise, FedEx and Parceline plus a couple of others in that line of work which I wasn’t asked to look at.

Maybe I was having a bad day but there seemed to be something odd on all of them.

hi mate i get what your saying when you said

I know how to fit vinyl and can say I know what I’m doing!

that’s how the guy that fits them now sees himself i would think but there is nothing you can do if you cant change the vinyl to one for the job if there is not a good colour match

    Hi Richard,
I think I’m Gonna let this one go. No point in falling out with someone if you can just walk away and keep your reputation. Wouldn’t it be a perfect world if the clients actually took our advice for once and agreed to believe in our experience.
