RIBBON BREAKING ROLAND
Hi,
We use replacement ribbons from Appollo and up to now have had no problems.This morning we changed a magenta ribbon and continued with a job but the ribbon just kept breaking,we changed it twice then gave Paul at Appollo a ring who suggested printing at a lower resolution which we did and finished the job OK. However we won’t be able to do all jobs at 300.
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.Regards

are the ribbons actual “roland” ribbons….?
if not then they will do little if anything to help you…
not saying that there own ribbons wont do this. but they will blame that…what you can do though if you think your wasting catridge after catridge…
just take the snapped ribbon. lay it end to end and put a peace of selotape over the join. front and back… wind it on a bit with a pencil and away you go… 😉 -

Not original roland but APPOLLO refills, we have used them quite a while with no problems.
We have joined the breaks but when refitted they just break again,Paul at APPOLLO asked if we had a new head because they run at higher temp but no ones been near the machine.

im really not sure then why? is it only the same colour it does it with. i remember years ago the roland snapped often doing solid black panels but sinse then its been rectified… just thinking out loud…not really sure 🙄

yes only breaks with magenta i’ve been told the temp is hotter for this colour?

again not sure mate. ill have to ask the guy in our work that uses the machine, see if he knows of the problem. i think you will have to eliminate
the fact your using non-branded ribbons.. before doing any complaining to roland.
order one or two originals and try them out. if its still doing it then you know its not the ribbon. if its the head then its faulty and you can tell roland you want compensated or a new one. ide imagine they would replace it.but dont quote me on that 🙄 😮

I’m no expert on these matters, not owning a printer myself but did you get the ribbons that keep breaking all at the same time, just a thought but if you have had no problems in the past and now the same thing keeps happening it might be a faulty batch of ribbons.

Sounds to me like you’ve just got a faulty batch. I had this problem when using reflex blue as a spot colour. Phone Paul at thermal products and I’m sure he’ll replace them FOC!

We have a pc60 and had a problem with breaking ribbons, I also use Apollo ribons and can’t fault them.
Your problem may be the little composite roller next to the print head. Mine started to disintigrate and was snapping ribbons. I replaced the roller (about £6) and eliminated the problem. I do check that roller now and again coz it has a tendency to drift to the back of the spindle and start breaking ribbons again. Problem sorted. 😀 -
This should be of interest to colorcamm users experiencing problems with ribbons snapping.
(I came across this tonight whilst doing research on the colorcamm)
Apparently there are two print modes on the colorcamm:-
Mode 1 (the default) prints a slightly lower quality but is less prone to snapping ribbons. Mode 2 prints a bettter quality but due to the higher temperature is more likey to snap ribbons.
You can set your machine to mode 1 (no ribbon snapping but lower quality print) by pressing the “cleaning button” and secondary “on button” at the same time as pressing the “down arrow”.
To set mode 2 (better quality – but more likely to cause ribbons to snap) – press the cleaning button and secondary “power on” button at the same time as
pressing the “up arrow” key.All is explained in the .pdf file you can download here:-
