  • Replacing ink before cart is empty question?

Posted by Warren Beard on September 27, 2011 at 6:58 pm

I hope somebody can answer this for me quiet quickly,

I want to leave the printer running over night but know the ink is going to run out in a few hours, can I change the cart to a new one (will the printer know it’s a new cart and reset the ink level?) and what happens when I stick the old one back in to finish it off?

    cheers

    Hi,

Yes you can put in a new cart and the printer will read the chip and recognise the new cart…..if you put the old one back in it will again read that chip and know how much ink is left in the part used cart.

Actually, that depends on what printer you are using. Some of the early Roland FJ’s and CJ’s didn’t do this and would assume that the re inserted cartridge is a new one. Most modern printers are sensible enough to recognise this as John mentioned. What are you running?

I got a SP540i which is nearly 18months old. I haven’t put the old one back in yet so will update the thread when I do.

    cheers

I’m sure that will be fine as it’s quite a new model. The CJ’s and FJ’s are probably around 10 years old now!! Man, I feel old 🙂
