Can anyone help me with the price of this work:

I have a client looking me to apply silver vinyl to protect a new gate he has recently installed. It will cover a flat panel which is approximately 3m x 1.5m. This will receive graphics in the future.

I then have to remove some (but not all – approx 10) broken foamex cut out letters fixed via plastic locators. I must then reproduce these letters and re-install. I didn’t do the previous sign so I have to match the font but it appears to be something like tahoma which should be easy enough! The location of the sign is above the shop front so is about 2.4m above ground level.

Both jobs are approximately 10 miles from me and are also 10 mile apart.

I was thinking something like £100 for the gate and £230 for the replacement letters.

    Cheers

You need to get the prices for the replacment letters from a trade supplier unless your making them.
In which case you need to work out the price to suit your situation, rent rates, electric etc and most importantly how much you want to pay yourself at the end of the week.
Don’t cheat yourself with cheap prices, so 20 miles is going to take an hours time plus fitting and materials.
I charge £25 Hr and I’m not driving round in a Porche yet so don’t think it’s too much.

£100 doesn’t sound enough for the gate, more like £150.00.

By the way I make it sound good when writing this but I catch myself quoting too low all the time. the other day a client asked how much for a little sign and I was thinking around £15, my wife said £25 and he paid no problem, didn’t bat an eye.

    Cheers Stephen,

I always quote too low as I look at it as what I would expect to pay not what I need! I thought the gate was low but I am counting on doing it on the same day and hoping not to be any more than a couple of hours at it.

As for the letters I have a guy cuts for me locally. (Joinery workshop) and he is more than reasonable! I have allowed enough for everyone else (suppliers) but I am probably skimping on my own time!

I often think something will take 2 hours and then end up the most of the day at it!

Thanks for your input at least it gives me confidence in quoting at more than these prices.
