repair to clear acrylic panel
Posted by Neil Churchman on November 20, 2006 at 11:09 amanyone know of a clear product that I could use to repair a damaged corner of a 20mm thick clear acrylic panel?
the ideal product would dry off solid so it could be filed flat and polished afterwards. 🙄

Andy…..
I don’t need to glue anything together, just to build up the missing chips of the damaged corner of a 20mm thick clear acrylic panel with glue or filler, whatever will set off hard enough so I can use a file to flatten off the edges, then polish up the edge if possible.
any ideas ? 🙄

Hiya Neil,
I’m not aware of any patch or filler that will not be obvious on acrylic.
As Andy suggested, you can try to glue the original chip back on using acrylic cement, but you have to be lucky make the repair look seamless.
The other option would be to radius the corners 🙂Checkers

OK Checkers,
Thanks for you input – never thought of radiusing off the corners

Would fibreglass resin stick?? 🙄 😕 If so, get a cheap ding repair kit from a surf shop cost only £5 😀

Hey Alistair,
I did wonder if glass fibre resin would work – I’ll give it a go!
….and you’ve just reminded me about that dent in my sailboard that needs filling too. 😀

What I’d recommend is getting some Tensol 70. Mixing up a small batch & using some paper (thick masking tape) or even thin METAL to create a ‘well / corner’ and fill it up.
It dries clear & is sandable. If polishing – use T-cut or brasso.
Or like Checkers just radius off the corners as a design feature!

Good idea Dave,
I’ll try that too and post a message on how well it turned out. 😀
p.s. would you know if they are expecting plenty of snow in the Highland Ski resorts this year?
