  • Removal of old vinyl from windows

Posted by Andrew Blackett on July 6, 2010 at 5:31 pm

I’ve been asked to do a site visit tomorrow, ultimately the job will entail removal and fitting of 8 windows all of which have old vinyl logos on.

Can anyone advise on the best and quickest way to remove the old vinyl and adhesive from the glass?

    Best wishes
    Andy

Andy a sharp staight edge blade I think you can get them at decorators shops with a holder. then glue and tar remover if you need to.

I would come to site and peal something to see which vinyl is installed…

Once I had window where vinyl went easily down and on second time I had to use heat gun as vinyl cracked and I couldn’t peal long pieces.

If you will need to use blade be care full not to scratch surface of glass.

On my last removal I used window cleaner liquid and scraper and moved glue in minutes down.

All you need is a spray bottle and a very good window scraper. Just work in strips using plenty of misting action with the water as this will prevent the scraped glue sticking. I used to try pulling the vinyl off, but now I just scrape. Have fun :lol1:

Never use a heat gun on glass.
As has been said straight edge blade/rapid remover.
