  • Removable Vinyl Advice help please?

    😀 Hi all, 😀

Have a customer who wishes to put adverts for special offers on his van 😀 😮 OVER THE FULL COLOUR IMAGES 😮 i have fitted.

i.e. Special Price For This Month etc.
He wants me to cut the lettering to go on the van but be able to remove it when he wishes.

    The questions I have are:

    1. What vinyl would you suggest if any to use.

    2. Is it possible to fix vinyl over the images
(PC60 Print sprayed with Frog Juice) without damaging the prints on removal.
I have now moved to Laminated Prints Where Possible but this was done before I was drawn into UKSG.

    3. Bearing in mind the van is not your average transit (2.5 VW T5) and he drives it so, would the vinyl hold.
He got the idea after seeing the cars in the garage with vinyl on offering specials.

    Many thanks

    Roy.

    Hi Roy

I’m not as clued up with this as a lot of other guys and gals on here, but surely whatever vinyl u use, when u removed it you would end up damaging the prints somewhere down the line.

I would ( until another way is offered which probably is better) use well designed magnets, cut, shaped and couloured. which could easily be changed over when needed. yes they would work out quite expesive for him to start comapred with vinyl. but it would be a lot cheaper than re doing his van. also they can be re-used.

I have made some up for my van that look like they are actualy vinyl stuck on. There is i believe an exelant thread somewher abouts on mags and designs ect.

But i could be wrong. but thats what i would do…..

    Thanks for that Mort, 😀
😀 The good thing about this customer is if it looks right and works he will go for it. 😀

How did you cut your letters from magnetic?.
The colour he wants is white, would you still cover in vinyl to protect the magnetic?.

😕 I have only used it in sheets square and to me thats bad enough to cut. 😕

    Roy,

Morts suggestion of magnetic is a good one, but Avery do make a very low tac white vinyl that I have used over other signage with good effect.

You’ll have to be sure that the frog juice surface is still good tho, as any degredation of the surface will contribute to a failure.

Another thing to remember, if you apply a low tack vinyl with water, ie a wet application, it will reduce the effectiveness of the glue by a given %

This makes it easier to remove withing a month or so.

As far as the magnetic goes, just sign to white magnetic and cut in an unusual shape. You will not need to laminate it.

To save costs, I buy brown magnetic (about half the price of white) and put a digital print over it. That way you can have something ‘outstanding’ that is easily removed.

Can be a bit more expensive tho.

    Cheers

I’d go for the magnetic material as well. It can be difficult to cut unusual shapes out with a knife, but why not do something like a bubble or a kidney shape, cut the shape in white (or whatever colour vinyl), apply it to the magnetic, then cut round with a pair of scissors?

Ever since Jill mentioned she did corner rounding on magnetics by drawing round a coin and cutting it with scissors, thats what I’ve done, makes the job 110% easier. Humble opinion, but no matter how removable a vinyl claims to be, it could still be a pig to remove and could cause problems in the future.

    Cheers, Dewi

    Hi Guys

I use me knife or as dewi says for cutting mags. just take your time and it will be cool. and as i said they can be re-used say if he is doing the same offer again ect, so it may save him money in the long run 🙂

😛 Thanks for all the advice men, 😛

😉 I have spoken to the customer and we are going for the print on magnetic with some separate magnetic letters for price. 😉

This is what is so good about this group, it gave me more confidence when I spoke to him referring to UKSG and the advice from other more experienced people in the trade.

I have posted the van if you want to see it the photo is not brilliant but that was due to time of finishing job.

    Thanks again lads.

    Roy.
