• removable foamex panels – any ideas?

Posted by Martin Manley on March 2, 2010 at 12:26 pm

A local hotel wants removable panels in their spa with all the details of which manager is on duty at the time. I’m doing them on 6mm foamex as they want to keep the cost down but need an idea for fixing them so they can be removed maybe two to three times a day. velcro was my first thought, but might wear out quickly, and hooks and eyes might look a bit agricultural – something smart and decorative anyone?
Regards

Do them on 1.5 mm thick material and get some nameplate holders so the plates slide in and out.
Pantograph Services have a range of sliders on-line for viewing and pricing.

Thanks for that – I can see me using their products in future, but these things are 2 foot x 18ins so nothing there lends itself to them…but you’ve set me off on a new train of thought

If you can use a hand router you can make some slider channels out of something like 10mm foamex. Just route a rebate on it that is say 6.5mm deep. Easy squeezy.

use "mini-trim" same as panatrim but much smaller.
you just cut and fix it to the wall like panatrim and drop the foamex panel down into it. job done….

Also, I’ve bought plastic extrusions from MKM. Cheap as chips usually.

Erm, how to describe it…..
You want to end up with an ‘L’ shape. Get a bit of 10mm foam. Rout along one edge, 6.5mm deep and say 10mm wide. Then cut this piece off to maybe 20mm, leaving an L shaped piece. Turn it over and fix it to your sign panel so you end up with a lip type thing. One at the bottom and one at the top equals a sliding channel to take a 6mm panel.

The reason you want to rout before cutting is that it is difficult to rout a narrow strip.

Clear as mud.

Robert – where can I get mini trim? Is it a Universal product? It doesn’t seem to be in their catalogoue (tried the net but keep getting mini skirts!)
