  • registration marks, how to use them?

Hi to all the creatures of SignSpace,

can anyone please tell me how to use registration marks in vinyl correctly? Tomorrow afternoon I have to apply a multi-coloured logo and i am not sure how to do it correctly. Can you apply it dry or do i have to use water & soap? Do i need transparant application tape?

    A very desperate SignBoy 😥

    When I make registration marks,
I make a small square and place one in each corner of the design.
You can use stars or triangles too, even circles.
Every layer of vinyl that you cut, cut the squares.
When you stick, line up the squares so that they are all stacked.
I stick wet unless it is really small copy,
but these daredevils here mainly stick dry.
I use rapid tac and reugular R-Tape, never that clear application tape.
I squeegee the hell out of it too.
But I am by no means an expert!
    Good luck.
    Love….jill

I have never used it because i only ever seem to remember it when I’m half way through a difficult registration job

I tend to leave cross rego marks on large jobs like the one I did this week. There was an 11 metre graphic that had to be rego’d and I left a large cross which I cut on both pieces.

Did a small job today leaving small rectangles and bits of the other text as rego marks. Don’t underestimate the value of leaving text as rego marks. You’re really used to looking at text so when it’s not aligned right it stands out.

Get some confidence and learn to apply dry. When I first came here (UKSG) I was almost exclusively a wet app person. Now I do everything dry.
