I know this sounds like an easy question but:-

What is the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 reflective?

What is the specifications for the rear of HGV and Road Maintenance vehicles with regards Reflective and Fluorescent chevrons.
I am going through a huge debate with 2 customers who both operate large highway maintenance companies and have come up against site foremans that are saying they are not up to spec.!
This is causing grief as they don’t know what the spec is!!!

I have got some info of william smith about chapter 8 lettering but there is too many grey areas!!

    Thanks

You may get a better response if you introduce yourself in the ‘Say Hello’ section and tell us a little bit about yourself.

Sorry I have been registered on this site before but can’t get onto my login as I can’t remember my password and it was registered to a now defunct email address.

You could use the contact button on the left of the front page.

I’m sure that, if you give him the details, Rob would be pleased to re-activate your old account.

I would have suggested calling William Smith but you have already done that. Not sure how a site foreman can say that a vehicle is not up to spec if they don’t know what the spec is though.

I told them he was just being a jobsworth if he can’t tell them what spec he wants how can he have any authority or right to say it’s wrong or right!

I’ve spoke to william smith again this morning and it seems that the specification for Road Maintenance heavy vehicles under chapter 8 is for the chevrons to the rear in Class 1 3M Red Reflective and Yellow fluorescent at 150mm wide. covering as much of the rear as possible!
Yellow fluorescent not Bright Yellow as some people think it should be.

So what sort of life do William Smith guarantees for their fluorescent?

The best I can find is two years, which is bugger all use on a three year lease van. 🙁

I know from previous applications you will never get fluorescent to last beyond 2 years due to how it is made. It’s radioactive you know and fades in sunlight no matter even if you over laminate it.
No one will guarantee fluorescent much further than 2 years…

    Hi John

3M warrant the 3480 series Fluorescent for 3 years in Northern Europe inc UK. This is 3M’s premium Fluorescent and is 150 micron thick.

They have another series 7725 Fluorescent which is only 2 year warranty and is 100 micron thick so more conformable but with the lesser warranty.

    Hope this helps

Yeah, I guessed you might be. I’ve just spent the last five minutes looking for the sodding toolbar.

I suppose now is as good a time as any to find out whether it works on Macs. 😀
