Reflective recommendation
Posted by Jon Marshall on September 24, 2008 at 11:58 amCan anyone recommend a workable reflective vinyl. I’ve been using Hexis and mactacs range which are about £11 per metre at 610 but both of these are difficult to fit. I’d like something that doesn’t tear like tissue paper (mactac) or stick immediately leaving behind bits of vinyl when repositioning (hexis)

most reflectives are much the same, you can make them better to apply though by laminating them onto normal vinyl first,
I always wonder why reflectives need such an aggressive glue, and one that de-laminates if you try to re-position the film. The daybright from hexis is more forgiving, but costs several arms and legs 😉
Btw you should be able to get engineering grade for about half what you are paying.

We like the 5R series from Allprint Supplies.
More flexible and forgiving than most others.

Yeah, I’m getting a sample of it so I’ll see how it is.
Had a bit of 3M Scotchcal the other week which has the controltac adhesive on it and seemed really good. But then it should be at £25 a meter for 610mm!!

3M Scotchcal is all I’ll use.
Sure it costs more, but it is so much easier to work with.
It’s worth it, in my opinion.

I use reflective from Vinyl Logistics, its very user friendly and they also have an offer on this month on the economy, class 1 and class 2 30% off list price! you can even print on it!

JonM,
i normally use nikkalite from europoint, i use quite a fair amount of reflective, and while i feel nikkalite is probably the best of what i would consider to be the budget reflectives, it still has some of the problems inherrent with other reflective films.

Well the 5R is a few quid cheaper than Hexis anyway so I’ll probably give it a go.
