  • Recommendations please on vinyl for walls

Posted by Ian Pople on June 15, 2011 at 7:26 pm

    Hi,

I have tried the search but can not find a relevant post.

Please could anyone recommend a vinyl and application paper for vinyl cut decals for walls. One that can be removed or moved without damage to the painted surface be it paint or wallpaper.

    Thanks in advance.

no such thing as far as I am aware Ian.
sticking to wallpaper will damage the paper when removed,
removing from paint depends on how the paint is keyed to the wall, if the paintwork is good, then it should be ok, but how can you guarantee it?

    Hi,

What I am after is a vinyl for decals for home users I have been asked to supply children’s graphics for bedrooms.

In the past I have just uses 3 year vinyl but this customer has asked if they can remove them without damage.

I agree with Peter, no such thing. You will always damage a painted wall when removing vinyl, it does depend on the quality of the paintwork though.

Yes, Oracal do this vinyl. it comes in matt finish and is purposely made for applying to interior walls. I had some samples and came in various nice shades/colours.

I do not know about how repositionable it is, but my understanding is that the adheive is a bit like a post-it. by that i mean low initial grab, which builds up over time.

ive never used it before but have kept it in mind because i liked the look of it and some instances where it had been used in homes…. I would advise calling someone from RHG and asking them more about the spec you require just to confirm what i have said is accurate.

    best of luck. 😀

Tried it Rob, doesn’t work, depends on the surface prepped. Depends what you use it for, we did some shopping mall walls which were fine but offer no guarantees is my advice. 😀 😀

    Hi,

Just called RH and they only sell the 631 in full rolls. They suggested Avery 500 has anyone used this vinyl.

    Thanks

The general wall stickers market is very uneducated and uses a lot of terminology interchangeably. Avery 500 is used by a lot of wall sticker sellers as its available in matt. It isn’t reusable in the way I determine reusable.

Avery don’t state it on their spec sheets.

The only reusable material I would recommend is Phototex but you’d need to print it.

    Hi,

Thanks for the info I don`t expect the customer to move the graphic after they have applied it. I have just ordered some 3M 30 series to try out in.

    Will update asap.

    Thanks all

No problems Ian just thought you wanted movable.

Let us know how the 3M goes.

The data sheet of the 3M said it is removable so will update.

I would still tell the customer that the paint needs to be sound before the graphics are applied and if it’s not then there is a risk of it coming off when the decals are removed.

Yes it’s common sense but if you don’t say anything then you will be to blame :lol1: :lol1:

Try the Stafix Cling range from Antalis. You can move the graphics around as much as you like
