  • Ready made built up letters supplier?

    HI All

I have a customer who wants built up letters, font is not an issue but wants "cheap" Is there somebody who stocks a range of letters and sizes in common fonts etc, I’m sure I saw somewhere once an advert for it but can’t remember.

    cheers

No such thing as cheap built ups mate, you could try the vac formed letters, there are a couple of suppliers. . I think tradesigns or signtrade does them.

Hope you get it sorted !

you will find a whole bunch of them on the UKSB TOOLBAR found under 3D Flatcut, moulded letters etc

as dave has said mate, no such thing as cheap. and never heard of anyone having pre-made builtups. its a time consuming skilled area of the trade.
however, ide imagine the likes of Ashby trade sign supplies to offer at least a cheaper version of built-up as i beleive they use an all in one automated return workshop. i personally prefever the hand made versions.

i had a customer that was asking same recently… she wanted dimension for her signage but not willing to pay. i honestly cant be ar$ed with folk like this. its like saying i want a BMW but want to pay the price of a Skoda. so do we all!!! :lol1:
anyway, cheapest and quickest way is a thick flat-cut letter from 19mm gloss faced foamex. only comes in white so face needs covered in vinyl.

    hope this helps…

    cheers guys,

Rob I don’t have the toolbar as it crashed my Firefox.

I’m still pretty sure I saw somebody promoting ready made, they had a small selection of fonts and sizes to chose from off the shelf, I’ll have to look back and see if I can find some info on it.

Yes foam was my first thought but not really suitable.

I also used the word "cheap" so I didn’t have to keep typing out "cost effective"

I have spoken to one supplier already for specs as there is a "cost effective" option in the sense if you use Ariel Font it’s the easiest to make so slightly more "cost effective"

    Cheers

    no probs mate…

yeh there are various ways in making a built-up letter cheaper.
    as you say…
    Simple sanserif fonts.
    also
    increasing/decreasing the letters return.
    the height/size of the font
material used, acrylic, stainless steel and so on…
mill finish or powder coated to pantone colour
many many variables on a laborious skilled product … hence why i said i cannot see there being an off the shelf source for hand made built-ups.

if you are correct, i would guess that anyone offering off the shelf cheaper alternatives, then they will be created using an all in one return workshop with basically is a computer fed automated machine that notches, rolls, folds etc all in one. ide give Ashby a try first…

Accent Signs Ltd use to do quite a range of moulded and built up letters. Not used them for a long time so don’t know what prices are like now Warren
