brilliant guys.. thanks a million.. you just saved us ยฃ25 to pay for this font.
its something andrews working on and the customer is a persistant thats what they want.

I understand perfectly Robert, but it does bring up the question of copyrighted fonts and whether we should be doing this sort of thing.
If the font police find this site there might be a lot of contributors locked up. ๐
-
Aren’t the font police more interested in locking up kids who go around smashing up fountains?

very very true john.. the copyright thing. not the locking up ๐ ๐
the font i needed and andrew found on the site was “pay to join the site” then download rather than pay for the font. but you have a good point. hense why i try to stress royalty free files only. ๐

This seems an awful lot of fuss for something thatโs available to download free of charge, from here for instance webdesignhelper.co.uk ๐

Although there may not be an issue in this particular instance I was just trying to draw attention to the fact that this may not always be the case. Can you honestly say that no copyright files ever get exchanged on this site?
I’ve seen requests for commercial fonts and van outlines which I’ve not felt able to respond to. If somebody wants a logo which I have digitised myself or obtained from a royalty free source then there is no problem and I am happy to pass it on but if it came to me on a commercial CD then I see a problem.
Should we all club together and buy one vehicle outline CD to share?

For what it’s worth, Papyrus comes free with every new Apple Mac as well.

Your comments on copyright are perfectly valid and Im sure no one here would knowingly pass on copyright material.. excuse me I seem to have a bit of a cough.
quote :Should we all club together and buy one vehicle outline CD to share?I think this question should be addressed to Brian ๐
And this would be a good one for Brian too; does a large company that purchases a vehicle outline CD pay the same price as a single user, when the large company may have 3 or 4 people sharing that single CD!! ๐
Perhaps it would be possible for UKSG to buy a single copy and share it between it’s members ๐ฎ
Isn’t this business of copyright an interesting subject? (yawn)

It is a strange one as alan says, where do you draw the line at sharing/ copyright.
It might be ok to share a font CD between workers but they each have to have their own registered version of Signlab!
I guess everything you buy comes with a signgle user clause, but how many people actually abide by this.
In ref. to the suggestion of buying an outlines CD for the Group:
quote :This Software is licensed for the exclusive use of the original purchaser at a signle location on a single computer…….. If you plan to use this sofware on an electronic network, please contact IMPACT regarding volume discounts and site licenses. So no you can’t ๐

hi guys.. why did you all have to hop onto my post.. ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
in a way it is a good subject. & i do assure you all, although this site has the fascilities to go into illegal swapping of files i will do my bit to stop it before it starts.
obviously i cant do everything, it would bestupid for me to think i could. ultimately it would end up detering folk using the help of the site altogether.. so no im not gonna ram it under everyones nose what is and isnt allowed. i think things run pretty well in this forum to be perfectly honest.with regards to brian.. well, i think he is doing his bit to prevent things spiralling into siomething that will loose impact time and money in the long run. out of every supplier on the site brian is the only one with access to this area. this allows brian peace of mind that his software is not being abused. and quite right too..
you may notice he does help folk looking for clipart by sending them the outline direct. this way the outline is not left on my server for everyone to have it.. ๐ -
Hi Lorraine,
My UKSG suggestion was very tong-in-cheek as Iโm sure you, Brian and every one else appreciate. ๐
Another observation is that people often say, โI canโt sent you the fontโ (because of copyright) โbut if you tell me the wording you require Iโll set it out, convert it to .ai, and send it to youโ.
Iโm sure every one would consider this perfectly acceptable because the text we see on screen is not the font; the font is the piece of software that produces it. (My interpretation). (Unlike a vehicle outline that is itself the copyright material)So it would probably be good practice if when only a copyrighted font was available, people should always requested say, โTHE BEST WINE SHOP IN TOWNโ all caps brush script in .ai format. Then their request could be met very easily. Although all caps brush script?? Theyโd probably be laughed out of TOWN.

I completely agree Alan, one such example was a particular font i was looking for in which the text i needed was kindly provided and converted to curves for me. Just a shame i never got to finnish the job!
All though i agree 100% with supporting software developers, i’m the sort of person that wants to test drive things before i part my hard earned cash. Unfortunately this is not possible on a lot of software, sometimes due to a time restricted trial/demo or no trials/demos at all and not having the time to really try it out in demo mode before the time is up.
I have on occasions been stung by things that don’t do what they say on the packaging, but once opened software cannot be returned!
