Hopping someone can advise me on the latest problem i have with our Mutoh Rockhopper ll solvent printer.
Just get over one issue and you get another. and i have orders to get out.

Printer was fine one day. next day power it up. and now get a "connection D1" error for the heater.
Looking into it, it points to the front dryer as they are D1 and D2.

    But what is the fault?
    The heat pad?
    The controller board?
    The heater power board

There a several red lights on or flashing on the controller board.

The problem is how to find were the problem is and witch component to change. as all cost a lot of money (that i do not have )

From the heat pads the thermostat which to the control board. the power to the pads comes from the heater power board.
i have tried changing the thermostat leads from the fixer "F" with the "d1" . but when restarting you get the same error "connection D1"
i have changed the D1 power lead on the heater power board with the D2 and F power lead, but again up on restarting the printer i still get the same error code.

So to sum up were do i go next to find out lead component to change? it would be ideal to have one of each and change them until i fine the right one, but we do not have such luxuries to do this.

Yes i have rang around to get advice and to get someone to come out to me. But the one person that could come out wonted £250.00 just to come out and tell me what the fault is and then the price of the item that needs replacing and the £30.00 per hour to fit it.
( at that sort of money i a looking into going in to repairing printers instead of running them.

So any help or advice one how i can resolve this issue without spending in excess of £600.00.

From a small print shop owner, who is pulling is hair out daily 🙁

D1 is your heater, may be a quick fix
    unscrew the front panel,
on the orange heat pad you’ll see a raised area in the plastic, there is a fuse under it, It’s likely to be blown,
If you carefully cut the rubber back you’ll expose the fuse, Use a multimeter to test it, if blown just solder on a bit of fuse wire.

I’ve had 6 heater failures on my machine, and had to replace a heater for the first time last week, every other time it’s only been the fuse.

    Hi Ian.
    Thank you for the reply.
I know about the two fuses in each of the D1 and D2 heat pads on the front dryer. But i did not know you could just replace with fuse wire. are they not Thermistor fuses? and would just replacing with fuse wire not put me at risk of blowing some other part at some point.

What rating of fuse wire did you use? and did it work ok after?

If any one knows the rating of the Thermistor in the front dyer pads i will look at finding some and try replacing the ones in the D1 pad.

Will i must say a big THANK Q to Ian.

I took a look at the fuse in the "D1" dryer heat pad and one of the 2 did not have any continuity. so as advised as a temp solution i added a small piece of 3amp fuse wire to by pass the fuse. and IT IS WORKING 😀
I can not get the print jobs out on time and the clients will be happy.

Has soon as get the time i will try and find a replacement for the Thermistor fuse so i know i will not damage any other part.

Once that you to UK Sign Boards for the help.

One happy Print Shop owner. 😛
