I was wondering what the best way to back up stuff…I have a Mimaki JV3-160 SP. What I was wondering is a good way to back up printing banners…I have tried several times and it seems like it tapper alot. Is there a way to help it from tapering. I put marks on the printer itself and on the material so when I back it up it would get close to it…I know it won’t be perfect, but is there a way to get it closer than what I got it…

    thanks,

if we are talking about double sided printing… then my jv3 would also wander off in a direction but we are talking about 5-10mm max over 3-4mtrs

Few things that help… spirt level the machine,, make sure u got it perfect.

air movement, make sure the ink is getting a blast of air for drying reasons as it goes onto the roller

pull the material through correctly, feeling for equal tension while loading.

static, if you put material on and its covered in cellophane this can cause static and material sticks to the roll.

case of trial and error to get it perfect.

And there’s me all ready to say how our server in the office runs a backup to a server under my stairs at home every night at 10pm. Wrong kind of "backing up" 😀 😀 😀

As for your post – we print 2 pieces and weld them together, far easier than trying to get registration correct.

Roland how do you get it straight though..What I did today was re-roll each banner up and so I would have brake on printer, but it took awhile to do it though..I thought there would be a faster way at least to line up material on printer…

Chris, my company just got into the sign business…so, right now I don’t thing my boss would buy a welder but good try though..

I am new to this, this is a learning curve to me…I try alot of different things to get the job done, but it just seems like there would either be an easier way or faster way of doing things…it is just talking me alot of time to do it…

    thanks again,

well we used sewing methods…. yes it can be a problem… however the take up has the same roll width as the source roll, so we just drop it on the floor a few times on the end… this sometimes can be a bad thing if ink isnt cured well enough. the other company i worked with used a home made roll to roll thing to get it straight. i guess its trial and error until u master your own system… chris advise about printing one side can work out better if you do end up spending too much labour time on double sided printing
