I have just seen this on another forum 😀

the amazing part is that everyone seems to be telling him it looks good 😮

I was asked to order some signs for the shop front, went to some bussiness asked around for prices. I was like WTF OMG!
As I am quite good with computers, photoshop, corel etc. decided to find out ‘how hard can it be’. Ebay’ed a cheap second hand hardly used cutter, some vinyl and youtube’ed while i waited. Done the shop front, even sold some stickers on ebay. Its not hard at all, but time consuming. Now its not like a hobby or something, just a little money on a side.

The top green is vinyl wrap. White letters with black borders and yellow letters with black borders (layered). The bottom green is just paint on some old bussiness ads, and those boards will be removed. Just after I’ve done the yellow window signs, they decided to have some yellow blinds as well. That was funny.

Don’t all polish shops look like that 😀

There’s a million REALLY bad jobs out there, (and this is not the worst by any means), many done by ‘professional’ signmakers.

It’d be nice if either of you would upload some of your work to the portfolios 😉 whether amazing results or just your day to day regular stuff. Everybody on here appreciates seeing other member’s work.

…you know, before you comment too harshly on other people’s work! LOL

I wasnt being harsh at the end of the day it’s what the customer wants and i’m sure they are delighted with it, everyone has there own opinion and ideas you can give guidance and it’s upto the individual to decide.

I think you have to remember that if the custome only gives the signmaker a few hundred pounds budget then they are not going to get any better than this.

Moneys money at the end of the day.

    hi kerry

sorry, but is the post above "all yours" or are you quoting part of someone’s text? if so, it would be better if you use the quote tags available or some other way of identifying the qouted text.

Yes, the design element is terrible…
why another forum pats their back is probably down to the person patting the persons back, own design ability.. 😀
I agree with Denise to an extent, but the use of materials could be the exact same with a much better appearance, all that is needed is a bit of thought / skill behind the design. so production cost, other than design time, would have been the exact same regardless.

Every time you people start talking about dodgy work and cowboys I get this insecure feeling in my loins…

I doubt you have anything to worry about mate, I haven’t seen any of your work but i have seen your shop front/windows design etc and although i wasn’t scrutinising anything, it looked good.

Nice of you to say so, Rob…

I’m glad you haven’t seen my work but what I’m finding is a lot of people just want stuff that looks bad and it reflects badly on me — not a lot I can do about it if their logo and layout which they insist on is pretty amateurish looking.

Also, that common problem, they all want foam board and want it as cheap as possible.

I quoted for a shop recently in a really good area near town, it was a huge shop, I’d guess the rent on this place was 2 or 3 thousand per month, and they basically wanted the cheapest sign money could buy. Asked if I could cover the existing previous owners sign with vinyl and put their logo on top… total budget was about £150 she said.

Just doesn’t make sense to me and I’m glad I have other irons in the fire at times.

Had similar quote to do Gordon (which I lost) wanted cheap’o sign for shop front.
Walked past the shop yesterday, they have bought a vinyl banner and screwed it to directly over the current sign……

    I have seen this also.

2 shops near us have just had a correx sign fitted ( not a temp ) unbelievable, how much have they saved by doing this?

Correx signs on a shop… nuts.

The economy is free-fall right now. My advice to all of you is to sell your solvent printers and buy air rifles; with any luck you’ll be able to shoot some rats or something and get through the recessionary holocaust…

As it happens I’m looking for a cheap solvent… send me a message
