  • Purchasing a new printer, Please help..

Posted by Neil Danley on May 17, 2018 at 10:38 am

Hi Guys, Hope you all can help and give me some good advice as this is my first post and i could use as much help as possible!.

I’m looking at buying a new Solvent/latex printer. I have seen a couple of the latex’s and the New Epson SC-60600 and 80600 so far. Has anyone purchased one of the Epson’s at all and are they as good as Epson make out??. I have seen the colours and too be honest the print quality and vibrancy of the colours that the Epson can produce compared to the latex is a little better, so i am edging towards Epson.

Has anyone got one and what are your thoughts?.
Is anyone thinking about purchasing either a 60600 or 80600 and are having 2nd thoughts or is stuck like me?.
If anyone is looking at any other new printers you think i should know about then please say?.
Also has anyone received any quotes for an 80600? as i have received what i think is a good price for £14,500.00?.

Hope to speak soon. Thanks for your help.

    Hi Neil,

    Welcome to the board.

It really depends what market your aiming for. In the Sign & Van Graphics arena the main contenders are Roland & Mimaki (Solvent) & HP (Latex).

I could be wrong on this but I think the Epson printers are better for internal printing jobs for the retail market. I started printing with an Epson 9600 and don’t have a bad word to say about them.

If you can be more specific in the work you want to carry out it will help people answer.

    Hi James,

Thanks for your message. It would be for outdoor signage, The new Epson solvent SC range can do everything i need i just want to see if anyone had one and thoughts etc. I haven’t looked into Roland or mimaki as i was told by various people that its either Epson or Hp latex?.

Hopefully someone on here has had experience in using either one or is in the same boat as me looking but doesn’t want to waste money and get miss sold anything. :awkward:

    Thanks

In the near future we are looking to upgrade our Latex 260! I thought I would definitely be looking at only a new latex machine! However, after a very in depth look at the Epsom 80600, I was extremely impressed! The thing that was keeping towards latex was the short period until you can laminate, which is apparently not the case with new latex machines! In the USA, Epsom are quoting 4-6 hours before laminating!

Overall the machine really did seem impressive, I would love to hear some user feedback!

Luke that and a few others is the same Reason im swaying heavily more towards Epson. Have you had a demo Luke? If not id really recommend having one, As the guys who showed me really opened my eyes to why this should be my next machine however im just wanting to hear from an actual user before i make a purchase. or if someone can advise why i should have a diff printer then im open to seeing all ideas..

    Thanks

That’s got to be better than 24-48 hours though, surely?

I’ve not had a demo on the machine, although at Sign & digital, I looking at the machine and knew one of there sales reps really well, so I spent at least half an hour talking about the machine! I really was impressed.
    Positives were
Lower running costs than the latex (machine doesn’t draw as much power)
    Lower print costs than latex
Less to buy than the new latex
    Better print quality than latex
No issues with stretching and joining large prints like I have with latex
    White and metallic ink
    Short outgassing time before laminate

The things I don’t know what I would like to hear feedback on is reliability, and any further issues people have had!

We have a Roland. We are also under a care package with them. Saved me £1,000’s when things go wrong. Sometimes they just do. Just to through another thing to consider.
