    Hi Guys and Girls,
I am looking for a good quote for PL insurance and some councils are requiring 5m cover 🙁

Like you all, I hope not to use it. This means i dont want to pay a fortune to the insurers every month – but still need it to be there.

    Cheers

    Paul

We have used Sign Elite this year, they have a specific insurance policy for sign makers and there were a few things on there that were quite relevant to our trade. And they beat our last renewal by a few hundred pounds. Google it, if you cant find them Ill put up their number.

I use Directline Tradesman, half the price of Elite and Im insured for most of the stuff inc using heat and working up to 3 stories high. Anything out of the ordinary, I just call and let then know, so far so good. They also have the option of £5M cover, £3M as standard

Thanks for the info. I have just called Direct line Tradesman insurance and they will not insure me if i fit my own signage. The underwriters will insure me if i do not fit it??? Makes no sense at all
Applying vinyl to a facia is considered fitting.
However i asked if i were a carpenter fitting a wooden board to a shop, would i be covered and they said yes?

I would check that you are covered yourself Graeme

Shame as they were the better of the prices.

    Will look into others more.

Surprised that Direct line were cheaper than NFU, last time I checked about the NFU policy was miles better, I would also double check with the council, I know it varies from council to council but last time I looked at my local council it was 10m cover they asked for, used to do some work for Shopping Centres as well and they used to insist on 10m cover as well.

    I am with Giant

They were competitive and threw in some machine cover as well.

NFU for me at the moment.
I fell between direct line’s Tradesman and Homeworker policies and they weren’t prepared to alter either policy to cover the overlap.
Tradesmen are based at home but do no work there and have no customers visiting.
Home worker policy is if you have an office at home, do computer design work, have your plotter set up or have a client visit you.

Biggest problem with loads of policies is they exclude items you are working on or left in your custody, yet they wont define what "left in your custody" actually means.

Thanks for the link Paul, my pl needs renewing about two weeks ago! I need the tool cover etc but those prices sound great. I’m fed up with having to have the same cover as someone who has large premises, staff etc!

    Will phone them monday, cheers

    I still swear by Blackstone.

They don’t provide "off the shelf" policies, it is written for you, your needs. So you can sleep assured your covered fully for any eventuality.

    Afternoon All!

Was on the telephone to my local NFU Mutrual Chap and regarding my recent quote I had discussed with him.

They couldn’t offer my to be insurance for work upon vehicles, whilst vehicles are in my care/at the unit. I stated that I knew of a few others that were with NFU and they were insured with them.

He suggested to get anyone with NFU to call and double check you are fully insured as he couldn’t find it on the system. If he is wrong he did say to go back to him.

Let me know what you find out if you don’t mind.
