Hi, this question does not apply directly to Dye Sublimation but I thought some of you Dye Sub experts might be able to help me here.

I have a very small print and design business and I’ve recently started using the Magic Touch heat transfer system for printing onto little plastic shapes. I’m very happy with the results but I’d like to make the print more durable. Magic Touch supply a clear coating that you can heat press on and it’s very good but I then need to cut around the edge of the plastic shapes which is time consuming.

What I’m really looking for is a a way I can apply a protective coating that I don’t need to cut around after application. Kind of like the clear overlay you get on ID card printers. Any suggestions are gratefully received!

    Many thanks for any help!

Charlie, you will get a better response to questions if you introduce yourself in the say hello forum and tell people a little bit about yourself. Some very helpful people on the forum but a lot of the members like to know who they are talking to.

As for you question I don’t do any dye sub work myself so don’t know if there is a suitable product for your needs but another option may be a liquid type coating that was either brushed or sprayed on. Not sure how abrasion resistant liquid laminates are but some form of lacquer should help and would speed up the process.

Thanks you Sir! Good advice – I’ll go and post a little about myself. Cheers

Hi Chris, because I have so many of the shapes to coat I would like to try and find a quick way to do it. So what I’m thinking is that I may be able to lay the small printed shapes in the heat press and place a sheet of ****** over the small plastic shapes and then the protective coating would be transferred onto the shapes without me needing to cut out each shape. I just need to know what ****** is and if it even exists lol

I know that when I print an ID card there is a panel on the ribbon that provides such a coating. It just sticks to the ID card even though the ribbon is slightly wider than the card.

    Many thanks!
