  • Promotional items – Cut out the Middleman?

Posted by Justin Mann on February 20, 2009 at 12:26 pm

We are selling more and more printed promotional items, pens, water bottles, give-a-ways and so on and currently just use one of the many promotional companies found on the internet.

As most of the items seem to have been made overseas, I was wondering how viable it would be to set up so that we could deal direct with manufacturers. One option might be to start a franchise but I don’t think that side of the business is big enough just yet.

    Appreciate any comments/ideas.

    Cheers,
    Justin 🙂

I think the main question is do the amount you sell warrant it?

Cutting out the middle man does offer savings, but remember you’ll have to be buying in bigger bulk

Have you tried looking on alibaba.com? LOADS of stuff on there from China, you deal directly with the manufacturers

I imported a small amount of Dye sub equipment from China and found it pretty problem free and cost effective.

I was looking into buying printers and ink from China but found alot of it to be fraud. If I buy any thing from China I would be going there first to have a look to be sure. I got to the point of ordering but just thought I would ask them a question about the machine that I know it would not do, dose this printer apply a liquid laminate after printing and he said yes.

Thanks for the replies guys. I would be weary of buying any equipment from China but most of the orders I’m doing are being shipped direct from Europe or the far east, the promotional company don’t even get to see the items ordered.

    Cheers,
    Justin 🙂
