  • Production Management – how do you plan your production?

Posted by David Hammond on April 21, 2015 at 4:42 pm

As we’ve got busier, things have got more and more chaotic (hence why I’m working late tonight)

The problem we have is committing to jobs/deadlines and then getting swamped with work, and having a bottleneck in production.

How does everyone plan their production?

We’ve one plotter & printer, and not a huge amount of room, so we can’t have print floating around whilst we wait for substrates to be delivered etc.

Interested in a simple, clear way to see what capacity we have available and work with.

We run 8-4 (to avoid traffic) yet I’ve been in since 7, and don’t think I’ll be heading home anytime soon.

YES! Someone else that works ‘standard’ days :thumbup2:

Production wise – worksheets & a huge white board
White board shows lists of jobs of each of our 5 machines.
    Old school but works

Yes we have a whiteboard for weekly planning of installations etc.

Any chance you could post a pic (blur the confi stuff) or explain how its laid out/works.

We like simple!, I think I am over complicating it in my mind.

We use a simple T card system each job get a card which moves through from quote/site survey, awaiting payment, artwork, out for proof, artwork amendments, then we have production for each machine we have, finishing, installation with days of the week. Anyone can see at a glance what jobs are in what process.

Hope this helps mate our bottle neck is always finishing this is always the slowest process we are currently looking into a zund to help solve this issue.

Well, we’re that busy i’m going to upset a trade customer tomorrow.

their client hasn’t confirmed an installation date, and another customer of ours has confirmed the date, and paid. Thus they have the slot.

Things are going great, but when we get into silly mode, it’s chaos, and as a rusult we end up rushing. We really need a way to maximise our productivity without it all falling apart.
