My P.C. has decided everytime I do a job that has a large file size it decides to just shut down. I don’t mean just windows but the whole damn thing goes as if it’s been unplugged. I’ve checked all the connections and they’re ok. I thought maybe the power pack may be faulty but can’t understand why this should happen only when I have a large file open.

    😕 🙁

    Karl,

Have a look at your system hardware config in the control panel and make sure what Windows thinks it has matches what you have. I had a similar problem and found one of the memory modules was not functioning correctly (amongst other terminal problems)

Only other thing I can think of is if the file is that big you are exceeding the "virtual memory" and that is causing a conflict…..excuse for a new machine :lol1:

It’s not just a case of overheating is it? I would check for dust at the fan housing and make sure there are no obstructions that may affect the cooling..but I’m sure you’ve probably checked all that already. 😀

Left mine updating on Monday night, got back late tuesday to find it still on. Switched off to restart it wouldn’t come back on. Long & short 5 years work gone & back up disc unreadable. So now looking at different back up systems, any suggestions please shout

Took the back off and christ it was clogged up. Asked the garage next door to give it a blast with an air compressor. The sh!t that came out was unreal. Machine boots up faster and the files are opening without a glitch!
Motto of the story is: Every so often give your P.C. a good blow job!

I use Iron Mountain online data services that I get through Barclays along with Quickbooks. Works out a £20 per month for the lot.
