  • Problems printing onto Etch Vinyl.

Posted by Karl Williams on November 1, 2009 at 7:55 pm

Following on from the topic a few days ago regarding printing on to etch vinyl, I’m trying to do this but getting blotches on the vinyl. I’ve increased the passes on the printer and yes the results get better. But for the amount I’m going to print and the little time I have with other jobs this is going to take forever. Any thoughts or help on this are much appreciated.

if its blotching then you need to decrease the ink, do you have another profile to try. Etch is a polyester so will not take ink as easy as digital vinyl

Thanks for the reply mate. I’ve reduced the ink and changed the profiles but not really any change. Thought this one would be easier. 😕

is the etch clean? as its not a digital product, it could have fingerprint contamination, and or generally mucky stuff. I have had similar problems with non print vinyl.

I don’t think that’s the problem Peter but I will try a fresh roll to see if that’s the case. Back soon.

Right, the first batch was called Romantic red etch that I tried printing on to.
The second is normal grey etch. This is a new roll and has printed perfect so it looks like you were right Peter.
    Thanks for that. 😉

not any of the etch film I’ve ever used. Polymeric PVC yes, but not polyester.

Occasionally used a cast PVC as well.

(The only polyester films I’ve used are the speciality mirror ones…and they print really badly unless on a Gerber or similar)

I’ve had similar ‘blotching’ but found it was more to do with excess ink & dust contamination.
