• problem with ghosting

Posted by davidimo on April 3, 2006 at 10:59 am

We have some problems when printing on polyester film material, we experience some kind of ghosting on some parts of print, any1 knows how to fix this. It is visible on parts with contrasts (full color – white). I am attaching a photo of this phenomenon. Thanx for help!

is it on every print every time?

is it at the beginning only?

    What sort of printer?

It is not a pattern, it comes at different places every time, the printer is Roland Versacamm 540V, the material is PET (polyester) no-lite film, 190mic.

looks like static to me, , when checking dampers etc on your printer you will notice that your print heads will have a sooty effect on them, (1st time i saw it i thought something had went on fire 😀 ).
this soot is cause by a certain amount of over-spray like spraying from a paint from a spray gun, that is produced from the heads.
for some reason no-lite and other polyester film draw this over-spray down onto the film thus giving the ghost effect.
if you unwind the material first to loosen it and if only small prints like below give it a quick rub with iso-propanol, it will remove the static and should cure the ghosting. hope this was of help.
also add an earth cable to your print rollers will help remove the static too.
