  • Problem with cut lines between Signlab & Versaworks

    Hi everyone

got this strange problem with cutline in Signlab (ver 7.1) when sending to print by Versaworks (ver 2.0.1)

When i have graphics with spot colours – the cut line from Signlab becomes like hairline in Versa and wont cut – happens only when there is inconsistency with colours – like half of them are cmyk (or rgb) and others are spot colours from pantone palette. The solution would be to change all the colours from spot to process but when you have like a zillion of small shapes in the file with different shades – its just impossible.

noticed that signlab have problems with other colours than rgb anyway.

anyone came across this problem before??

ps. hope anyone understands and can help 🙂

    cheers

Roland indicated that this was a problem with earlier versions of VersaWorks. It would be a good idea to contact Roland Tech Support to verify that you have all the patches.

Aside from that, what method are you using to send the print and cut job from SignLab 7.1 to Versaworks? The typical method would be:

    1. Set the PostScript tag to indicate the cut line name. This is done via Options menu >> SignLab Setup >> PostScript Setup. Make sure you have this set correctly with no spelling errors.
    2. Regardless, use File >> Export to save the SignLab design as a "Level 3 EPS" file.
    3. Import the EPS file into Versaworks, and the RIP should automatically recognize the contour cut lines.

well – we do it like this: select the object you want to be cut line, hit CUT>>contour cut on/off, go to print, select versaworks as printer – pick page size, and just print.

it works fine with 99% of files – but sometimes it doesn’t (especially when u have spot colours mixed with rgb stuff)

after we got the machine (roland soljet proII V) we hadn’t changed anything in signlab’s setup

in roland help file it says to use the name ‘CutContour’ – in signlab by default it’s CutPath’ – but as i said before – it’s working fine this way (in 99% of cases)

thnx for help anyway – i’ll contact roland and keep u posted on progress with this one 🙂
