  • Problem with cut depth.

Hi All. Can anyone solve this problem?

We are printing some footprint shaped floor graphics for a client using our grenadier and wasatch 6.5. The problem is that we are not able to cut through the floor laminate and vinyl. The laminate is only a 6month laminate, so it’s not a case that it’s far too thick.
I’ve put in a new blade. Set the offset, Cranked it up to 300g and even set it to 4 cut passes. Basically it looks like it’s just tickling the laminate.

One of the things that i think is wrong is normally when we import the file into the layout tab, the cut file can be seen under the cut tab.
Normally we set the printer "cut only" profile, select the cut tab, select the job and then "process cut". However there is no file to select.

I have been able to send it to cut by just pressing "rip and print" but it looks like it’s just doing it with a pressure of 50g.

I’ve even gone as far as removing all the colour from the artwork leaving the cutpaths, importing it into the rip and sending it to "rip and print" in the normal print and cut profile.

I hope all this makes sense to you, it’s difficult to explain.

Thankyou for your comments in advance

Can only speak about my Graphtec Stephen.

Most of my cuts are on 751 oracle and the force is set to 18.

If I cut a bit of 651 say, i turn the blade one notch clockwise and up the force to 21.

If its an unfamiliar piece of material I just do test cuts till it weeds ok and leaves a faint line on the backing.

Probably completely irrelevant to your problem though.

I’ve tried altering the cut depth with various pressures and it looks like there is no change whatever it’s set on. I’m starting to think it’s a software problem. I might try and reinstall the rip when i have a chance. Too many jobs, not enough time.

    Cheers

the machine pressure may be overridden by the rip setting under properties for that profile.

I think Chris is right, I had the same problem with linear calibration on my Grenadier / Wasatch setup kept making changes in the RIP only to eventually discover that the RIP settings are ignored and the only way to change this is on the printer it’s self.

    Regards

    Thanks Russell / Chris

Do you mean lowering the blade by adjusting the actual knife holder or is there another way that I’m not aware of.

    Cheers

blade depth is done with the knife holder manually
blade pressure is set by the machine under (cut config) or by the rip under properties for that profile.

the machine can be set in the menu to ignore calibration and knife pressure commands sent to it buy the rip. that is how mine is set so that you set the machine for the job and the no hidden things to alter it.

O.K. I feel a little stupid now. I’ve found the big button called cut config and the job is running perfectly. I’m still new to this machine. I’m my previous setup (versacam /versaworks). It was all done through the rip.

    Thankyou to Russell and Chris.
