New poster on this board so hello to you all! I have recently had to upgrade my PC and it came with XP fitted and running. Have managed to load all software including SignLab and all seems fine, apart from a slightly annoying occurance when operating my Roland cutter. In a nutshell, the cutter/software seems to have developed a slight ‘pause’, it’s as if the information is not getting through via the spooler all in one chunk, and it stops for a split second then starts running again?

This continues throughout the cut procedure to the end? I have tried going into the BIOS and changed the parrallel port mode ECP back to SPP (standard), but this didn’t seem to make any noticeable difference? Anybody out there got any ideas what might be causing this odd ‘tick’ in my system? Many thanks for your time.

    Hi Spookysign

I have just Installed my Roland to a PC running XP and i downloaded the XP drivers. I take it you have used the updated drivers not the windows 98 ones.

That may be the problem. I did have a problem when nothing was being sent to my plotter at all, but after reinstalling the drivers a few times it now works a treat 🙂

Thanks Mort. Simple question – where can I get these updated drivers from for my Roland machine on XP? I just used the drivers for my machine which come with SignLab? Maybe they are out of date? Thanks in advance. Spooky.

Thanks again Mort, managed to download from the site you suggested, though the instructions of what to do next are not very clear? The file is sitting on my PC’s desktop at present, not sure if I drag and drop it into my printers folder or what! Tried to run the printer wizard in XP but I don’t think it knows where to look, I wish I wasn’t such a clutz when it comes to technology – once a technophobe always a technophobe! cheers anyway. Spooky.

Not an expert on Rolands, but I don’t think the Roland drivers are gonna be much help if you have Signlab.

You are best sticking to the driver in Signlab, what version of Signlab is it?

It has a setup file within the Folder u downloaded, run that then install the drivers from signlab.

Dunno if it will make a differance though.

I had the same problem a while ago, since gone back to m.e. now. I was told that the slow processing of print is because in 2000/XP the printer analizes the whole page rather than the selected artwork. So if you have a print page set up at 610mm wide x 1600mm long, thats how much it will process rather than just the graphic 100mm down the roll. Was told this by Simon at Lettering Systems so I took it to be gospel 😉
