Only a few days away now

1-3rd of March at the NEC Birmingham

    So who’s all going??

Personally going down to have a look at embroidery software and to slap all the suppliers who have mucked up orders over the last year 😀 And to say Hello to the suppliers I was too drunk to speak to at SignUK last year (I swear it was all Robs fault)

Managed to pick up cheap flights so me n the missus are going down on Monday. Really looking forward to it this year because we now have the shop up and running, last year we were just window shopping.

Need to find a pink hi-vis supplier and also check out the new xpres rhinestone system, might even look for some shop stuff 😉

We’ve just checked into a hotel in Birmingham and looking forward to the show tomorrow

    Hi John
looked at a few Embroidery machines, very impressed with the ZSK Sprint (i think) and its capabilities to do different items. Purchased R Wear software & starter kit from Xpress for my girls to run as a side line on the TShirt side. Like the DyeSub & imported a system in from the USA back in 2004 but clogging issues so puts me off going that route now days even though systems & inks have probably moved on. How you getting on with your machine.

John, try and catch the seminar on "The power of vectors" at the training suite, really interesting regarding digitizing from within Illustrator or Corel, no need to learn a whole new piece of software from scratch.

Have to be registered to get the price. Good service too.

Hope I can post web links and tel numbers. If not, sorry Rob.

Sadly I missed that one 🙁 Maybe worth the drive back down? :lol1:

Personally I thought the show was rather weak this year… just seems to be getting worse and worse each year with very little suppliers turning up 😥

Felt it was a little padded out with clothing brands which were shown again on the suppliers stands and very little in the line of DTG machines

That said I still came away with some very useful information

Sorry John my mistake, the way I read the post I thought you were going today 🙄

Know what u mean about the show, a hell of a lot smaller, suprised to see Toyota pulling out 😕

Good show for me because I finally managed to find a pink hi-vis supplier, got the £125 rhinestone starter kit from Grafityp and gonna go for the "Fun Factory" kiddie transfers which should do well in summertime (touristtime).

    Neil,
    I use http://www.jmb.es
A Spanish firm. Email them and ask for a catalogue. I have used them for many years. Massive range, from kiddies/adult transfers to alphabets and Rhinestones. Great if you are in a tourist location.

Neil – what is the rhinestone kit about if you don’t get software?
as far as i could gather – the rhinestone kits were circles cut with a plotter into thick material – then brushed into the recesses with a sponge
i tried to get to the nec to see them from both grafityp and xpres, but had too many things going on
i am really interested in the rhinestone kits though as we have loads of designs made up
does it work well? is it worth it?

    cheers

  • Neil Speirs

    The kit contains:

8 boxes of rhinestuds/stones (very small amounts per box, I think xpres give u a lot more)

1 foam applicator (bit of sponge)

4 boards for cutting designs (a4 sheets of clear plastic)

6 sheets of reusable fixing tape (a4 sheets)

1 design cd (just had a look at the disc and it has loads of good designs and 20, 40 & 50mm fonts (script, capital & block))

1 sheet of the thick material for making the templates (35x47cm)

Instructions on how to create custom designs & using supplied designs.

Total cost just under £130, originally I was expecting to purchase the xpres kit for £500 but decided to go for the grafityp kit due to the large saving, how easy it seemed to do within corel without the need for any other software purchase & still having the all important telephone support for initial teething problems/daft questions.

I haven’t managed to give it a go yet, hopefully this weekend.

I’ll shop around for the rhinestones and other materials required, probably the transfer press because they seem to carry a good range.

i looked in to it after your reply, don’t really use corel but found the info on how to make the brush which turns the design to dots good idea if you already use the software. Not got mine yet, just left a deposit because they wouldn’t be able to sort til after the show. Xpres did also offer a day at their place for training but i’m to far away & its more of a side line for my teenage girls to work on.

I do like xpres and think they offer a great service, I probably buy 90% of my sublimation stock from them, however I do think they are expensive on the initial equipment sales 🙁 Last year I jumped into the photo crystal market, xpres wanted £500 odds + vat just for the UV curing unit 😮 I picked up one on-line for only £175 inc Vat & delivery! Mind you I do buy all the crystals & consumables from xpres

i havn’t got around to trying it yet – just need to work out the best medium to cut – i was thinking of maybe sandblast stencil?
i know it has to have a little depth and be cuttable
graphityp must sell the consumables seperate? – because i only do custom designs, and very few lettering, all the lettering i have loads of sheets of alphabet so the design cd wouldnt be a lot of use i guess.

darz – from what i can gather – the process is

lay out holes along text or a design
cut them from thick media eg sandblast
move the loose rhinestones around and they should pop into the holes
lift off together with clear heat resistant application film

i have tried a few times with corel different designs and i think using the blend tool is best

i have ordered the component parts, some came today, the rest tomorrow
i think you can do it with corel – but i’ll know soon enough

although i don’t know how viable it is going to be with regards to costs
for instance the rhinestones would need to be about 50p for 10 gross, and they seem to be 10x that.
and sworovski prices are ten times that again 🙄

As previously stated was purchasing the Rhinstone system from Xpres. Told it was in stock and would take a few days because of the show to get out to me. Didn’t hear nothing for a week plus, then get a phone call saying they had run out of stock because of the show. However ordered mine on the first day of the show so surely i should have been one of the first. Told it would be a few days again as they were waiting for certain items to make the kits up. Week plus on still no kit quick telephone not an apology or explanation just a refund. Well thanks Xpres i think i’ll spend my money elsewhere.
