happy new year to all and all that ….
ive been asked to produce some stickers approx 250mm x 100mm for an event that only need to last the day
these will be printed with Mimaki SS21 Inks any suggestions as i don’t really want to waste top quality media for such a short-term item
    cheers

unless there are loads of them could end up with more money on the shelf than you made

As above, Money will be left on the shelf, you’ll earn less profit. Just print on what ever material you’ve got it and charge.

Or order in via a sub contractor

You are only going to require 4-5 metres of vinyl.
As has been said, use whatever vinyl you use now and price accordingly.
Your customer’s requirement of one day for these is "their problem" not yours!

Do you buy a Pizza from Domino’s and ask for it cheaper because you reckon you will be hungry again in a few hours time?

1, Time spent with the customer
    2, design time
3, media setup in machine time
    4, the ink used, cost
    5, media used, cost
6, contour cutting the stickers time
    7, weeding the stickers time
8, giving customer / posting / parceling time
    9, waiting to be paid
    10, payment transaction fee

there could be other things thrown in above, but you get the jist of the process I am trying to outline?
Now from the 10 steps listed above, only number 5 will you save any money on by changing the media, and by how much over this 4-5 metres?

As others have said, keep to the media your using and charge same as always unless this is part of an actual bigger order already placed, even then just discount it slightly if the size of the order is decent.

I used to keep a few different vinyls in stock for this sort of thing but now I just have my everyday Polymeric and a high tack in stock.
Everything but stickers for plastics goes on the Polymeric, short term doesn’t get laminated, small stickers for tools etc and plastics go on the high tack with lamination apart from the very small ones.
The only problem with the poly is it is thinner and floppier to handle when not laminated so for short term stickers it’s harder to handle.

I was told when I first started that vinyl is a small part of the total cost of most jobs which is why I don’t use monomeric
and if a customer wants cheap short term stuff then I just give him what’s on the shelf.
