  • Printing onto Silver vinyl

Posted by Phil Craddock on January 21, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I have a job in where I need to print onto a silver base material (digitally) as the design has white elements within it and its a silver vehicle so we need to keep the color consistent throughout the job.

I have printed onto an Avery Silver 800 series before for small items but the new job is a good 2 metres by 1 metre.

would the avery 835 be OK ? or is there any other vinyl I could use.

only other idea I have is to print onto a clear material but again I have the white element of the design to consider so this would have to go on as white cut vinyl part which I don’t want to do really

    ta, Phil

i printed black onto Avery metallics before, its not great and ink can pool and not dry, its just used for text on badges now.. i was using jv3 with original inks at the time.

i think adhesion to metalic is the problem. i think this might be a job for 3rd party printer who has the new roland with various metalic print options onto white or clear.

    or

    job redesign.. sorry

we was recently trying to put a massive flame strip on a black van by printing the edge of the flame in black, customer didn’t like the test we did and dropped it.

    thanks Dave.

um, I’m thinking that the clear route with the white part as cut vinyl will have to do.

The design is very complex and unusual so needs to be spot on.

I too have had the pooling or ripple effect when print onto silver but small jobs its do-able.

We have a Mutoh 1204 Vjet running eco solvent inks.

    cheers

Metamark do a printable mirror silver and a normal silver. I have printed on both with ecosolMax inks on my Versacamm and not had a problem.
