    hi guys n gals,

I know there was a thread or two -which i didn’t read- on this in recent months but, after twenty mins looking through pages of searches….. 🙁

in a few weeks i’m of to holland with the U16’s and U18’s for a long weekend rugby tour to Holland,

Among the things i’ve been asked to supply, are half a dozen rugby balls, printed with the club tour logo,

I had considered using a soft vinyl to make a negative, a bit of heat to work it into the stipply bits and then just dab / sponge on some ink of some kind, removing the vinyl after,

any suggestions on this method or, better solutions?

    cheers,
    Hugh

    HI Hugh,
Ram rugby do it, but i think there is a minimum order! Speak to Will at Ram he sorts out our stuff. If you ever fancy a tour to Menorca get in touch.

    regards

I’ll mention it to the club organisers, there’s a tour every year for the colts and 16’s, there’s almost enough parents for a team though!

I had considered Ram as they’re -i think- not far from here, just figured that with such a small order it would be cheaper to do it myself, we’re also going to use ‘sussex rfu’ balls which i think are gilbert balls and supplied direct, not sure on that though.

had considered that but, wondered if an dabbed on ink would be better and, if so, which ink,

If the your balls are vinyl, first clean with one of those ball scrubber kits and then use screen printers vinyl inks 😀

    lol,

I had considered a screen ink, i’m guessing the balls are a rubber / vinyl type compound, i’ll see if i can find out for sure,

any recommendations on the ink to use?

    thanks,

    Hi Hugh,
If its vinyl screen printing ink your after the one I use is Polyplast from Sericol – other makes are available.

I’m not sure whether this would key onto a rugby ball though!

    Cheers John

I made a big boo boo once with npower photo shoot
Mind you it was an urgent job that had to be done that day so really didn’t have time to source materials

Painted a football with the logo npower but with ‘one shot’ enamel
….and of course it just wouldn’t dry

I think it went well with the shoot though

that’s the whole point John & John!! need to know which will bond and dry ok, otherwise it might have to be spray which comes with it’s own set of probs!

    anyone else?

OK – check and find out exactly what the ball is made of – once you find this out i’ll look through my trusty old sericol manual/bible to match the ink.

    Hi John,

thank you, I would hazard a guess that it’s some kind of rubberised vinyl material, ince the stipples wear off (quite quickly so i suspect rubber) the balls are quite slippery, hence why i’m unsure exactly what it’s made off, i’ve had no luck finding a manufacturers spec.

    hope that helps,

    Hugh

If its vinyl polyplast no problem. If its rubber – haven’t got a clue 😮 You really need to know the material used.

Yellow pages and look for a local screen printer, you must have at least one in your area. You’ll need a drop of thinners as well and some screen cleaner to clean up the brush, mind you it’ll destroy the brush anyway.
