  • Printing Full Colour on Dark Garments

Posted by Craig Ross on November 3, 2011 at 2:50 pm

    Afternoon All.

I have printed garments for customers since I first began just with flex, nice simply single colour or using two different colour flex’s. But I am getting increased demand for full colour garments that clients want. But I’m unsure of the best material to use.

I’ve researched on the Internet into different possibilities.

    – Transfer paper (print using laser toner, cut excess with cutter and then transfer onto document)

    – Sublimation Ink transfer

    – DTG Printer (but only good for light garments unless I find a spare £40K)

So I am interested in seeing if anyone here does full colour garment prints and the most efficient and cost effective way.

    Thank you in advance.

I use Premium from Target Transfers. Its nice and thin and does a good job. I layer up to 4 colours. Its fiddly but it works. For complex prints I have a DTG printer or if the print can be done as a block ( one piece) , then I can sublimate onto subli flock and print that onto a shirt.
40K is too much for a DTG, try between 10 and 20K for one that prints onto Black shirts.

Same as Earl, I have a NeoFlex DTG printer, prints any image you throw at it. The cost of DTG printers varies enormously but £40K is way to high – try £13K

Great prints too. Here’s some pictures of prints on Gildan t-shirts.

I know you`re machine can be swapped over so it can print onto other items, can it do iphone cases? we had an inquiry today about those.

Yes 15K or less for a DTG for light garments but for a dark garmenrt DTG which prints white i.e. Brother GT782 your looking at £30-£40K I think. Way out of my budget so haven’t really looked into the real price of it.

Yes I am hoping to attend. 🙂 Hopefully find what I need there.

I apologize, think I have been misinformed price wise so looking more promising for a DTG now, I’m almost excited, ha!

Sublimation flock is really nice, but you can get some colour change due to the limited colour gamut range, then there is always inkjet dark if you have a desktop printer with pigment inks, although this can be a bit thick for some people’s liking.

Failing that if you know somebody with a versacamm, they can print full colour for you, but for some designs DTG is really the only option.

Hi denise, magictouch co uk do sublimation iphone cases they ahve just come out. Personally i think they are a bit expensive at £7 each but I suppose personalised woud be good to go at £15-20 I was going to try it but I would be looking for bulk orders of the same design, and I don’t know many companies that issue iphones?

BUT, would make a great givaway for my clients at crimple!
